LCY Question

Quick question really, but given LCY’s rather short runway length @ just 1,508m long, I am wondering if anyone can tell me which of Bombardier’s CRJ regional aircraft can physically take-off/land at the airport, based on a full pax load?

I’ve tried looking at the London City Airport Consultative Commitee’s website (http://www.lcacc.org/aircraft/index.html#Approval), but it doesnt list any of them as “approved” as yet.

I am thinking that the CRJ200 & 700 series should be fine, but just not sure so if anyone is able to shed any light on this for me, it would be much appreciated.

The CRJ family cannot use LCY, nor can the ERJ145 (though the E135 can).

Although the concrete length is 1508m, the useable runway from a TORA and LDA position is only 1319m, so the actual runway length you need to consider is that.

The CRJ family has relatively poor runway performance, and there is litttle in the way of weight that can be removed in terms of fuel/load. Therefore Bombardier has never sought approval for the type at LCY as the offload of fuel/pax would be too significant.

Hope that’s some help? LCY operations and capabilities is an area of particular knowledge of mine.

I should add also that Bombardier have specifically designed their C-series on the basis that it will be LCY operable, even if it is only the C100.

Many thanks for the info rdc1000.:)

Basically, I’m playing Airline Manager on Facebook, and have an airline established out of LCY called LDN Airlines (any users that want to invest, please do so!), and I wanted to try to make it as real as possible.

I already operate x2 Q300’s and x5 Q400’s on a variety of domestic and international routes, and I know that both of these aircraft are already LCY approved. I was hoping to introduce Bombardier jets at some point to expand further into the European market, and thought about the CRJ series, but maybe I’ll look to wait a bit longer for them to introduce the C-Series onto the game. Either that or I’ll have to look to use Embraer E170’s & E190’s if I can’t wait that long!

Just to add another (potential?) aircraft to the operational list for LCY the mighty Douglas DC-6. Didn’t one land at LCY during the airshow 1 or 2 years ago, making it the largest aircraft to have landed at LCY at the time?

I presume that this may have now been superceeded by the A318 or E190 if any of these two are bigger???
