For me,music is an aural thing, not visual.I can see where you’re coming from re disabilities etc. When I first saw Brian Wilson (ex Beach Boys) after his stroke,I kinda felt the same. But then I closed my eyes and just listened.Yes,his voice was affected just a tad but the magic was still there in his songs.
“Video Killed The Radio Star”……you betcha.Too many people listen to music with their eyes instead of their ears;) .
I understand that, but in Greens case, the mumbling, the basic chords while others filled in didn’t make me want to shut my eyes because I remembered the days in the Nottingham Boat Club with the rubber penis on the amps and the general mayhem of it all didn’t relate to what I was seeing and hearing.
As for Brian Wilson, it was the same thing, yes, try and get away from the bizarre hand waving, but the voice was so naff, c’mon, sometimes we should just remember the legend, sympathy doesn’t always work, from what I’ve seen of Zeps performance from various sources, they can still do it, along with Pink Floyd, they must all be in the Keith Richards mould of surviveability.
I’ve seen the Stones in their dotage as well as their heyday, it’s a bit strange to see them now, Bills lack of presence is a real handicap, but how long will this go on before it gets rather sad.
Thats why I worry about a Kinks reunion, will the band throw themselves into ‘Autumn Almanac’ or have to do Rays, admittedly good, recent songs.
I watched the performance of Paul Macartney over Xmas on his US tour, yeh, right, most of the stuff featured was Beatles stuff, great, thats what the audience wanted to hear, and I loved to hear it myself, but I could see the spectres of John and George lurking behind him, it’s not the same, buy an exotic Island and move in with Kylie and forget it Paul.

Staying with reunions, here’s one I really hope happens. The Kinks may be reforming for a live concert. Now there’s a gig I would gladly pay money to see.
There were always divisions between Ray and Dave, the last interview I saw with Ray Davies prior to the release of his last album suggested they were still there, stroke or not.
I don’t know how badly he was affected by it, but the physical and mental strain to get going again must be very difficult.
Remember the rennaisance of Peter Green in the 90’s after all his problems, I saw him at the Lead Mill in Sheffield and quite frankly found it embarrasing, it was only the quality of the band around him, the hype and the sympathy thing that made me stay to the end of the concert.
Incidentally, whats happened to Peter Green, has he gone back into his shell or joined Syd Barrett in the ‘Great Gig in the Sky’.

They were good in the sixties in their heyday…is it still the original members or are they just another Pub or Club band these days??
Click on the link Steve. All original band members. They haven’t played together since 1996.Can they still? I can’t wait to find out.
Ray Davies has been writing and performing quality songs all his life. His latest album Working Man’s Cafe is a cracker.

Please elaborate on this, otherwise it could be hurling vinyls at each other from 20 paces.
NOOO! Throw CD’s and iPods at each other, but not vinyl!
Paul
P.S. Just make sure it isn’t MY iPod you throw!

Pete, Pete, Pete..what can i say..your taste in music leaves a lot to be desired..although we’re in agreement about the singing Budgie from down under ..nice to look at but absolutely no talent whatsoever

C’mon leave Kylie alone, she appeals to a lot of people and did a reasonable acting job in Dr Who, don’t you think she’s aged though after her illness, poor thing, having got rid of Long John Silver, I think that Paul should get in there big time.
We could have a Beatles reformation, Paul, Ringo, Dani Harrison, Julian Lennon and Kylie acting out the role of Yoko, but slightly more pleasing to the eye, sounds good to me.

As for old gits, highlight of the year had to be Seasick Steves performance on Jools Hollands Hootenany on New Years Eve, he blew everyone away, including Macca, who I’m sure appreciated a brilliant performance.
I second that emotion, but for those who missed Mr Holland’s end of year knees-up,check out Seasick Steve’s MySpace.3 CD tracks to listen to and a Youtube video.

Buble is the Sinatra of the modern era..i think he has a smoother more mellow voice than Sinatra..As for Tony Bennett.. he is just the greatest singer around and he’s still performing at his age
Sorry, Buble THINKS he’s the Sinatra of the modern era, he was on some TV show here sometime over the last few weeks and we decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, but quite frankly, he was bloody awful, no charisma, no power, nothing about him at all in fact, it was pathetic, that bloke who was in Memphis Belle could easily show him the door, the Buble myth has been invented by Michael Parkinson who has thankfully retired and spared us from having similar non entities shoved down our throats.
There are genres of music and singers who are’nt our kind of thing, but we can appreciate whether or not they deserve their little niches in the music world, musicals make me cringe, but that bloke who won the competition to appear as Joseph in the Technicolour whatever is bloody good in every way, I hate it, but appreciate his talent.

Incidentally, did anyone who watched that programme notice the chemistry between Macca and the gorgeous Kylie, lucky git, I’d personally swim to Steve Rowells house for a session with her, and again, someone whose music isn’t my thing but she deserves to be where she is, poor old Doctor Who, he missed out there didn’t he.

I’m sitting here by the pool with a nice glass of Margaret river Chardonnay listening to Michael Buble’ while i write this..very relaxing..you should try it Golly you might unwind a bit!!
On the whole, and speaking entirely for myself, I’d rather chew off my own foot than listen to Michael Buble. Tony Bennett he most certainly is not and he doesn’t belong on the same planet as Frank Sinatra. 😎
The Chardonnay sounds quite palatable, though. Suitably chilled, one would hope?

Yeas I’ve get your point, but frankly I don’t buy it. You say you like the band yet you are bashing it in almoust every step…and by that you do nothing more than **** off those who really dig them. So why flame around?
