Hi Guys,
A random question for ya, which side of an aircraft do you prefer to sit on?
With not taking into account the direction/runways/time of flight, I personally prefer sitting on the right as I find it more comfortable to lean on my right shoulder when looking out of the window.

Ok, just a quick question I thought I would post up on this thread as its kind of related…its to do with pre-assigned seating!
Who here uses the airline’s website to check-in online and pre-assign their seat, and how would you feel if you got to the airport on the day of departure to find out that you had been moved from the seat/s that you had previously chosen?
The reason I ask is because in my line of work I have to pre-assign seats for passengers booked on flights up to 3 days in advance of the date of travel, but say I can’t sit a couple or a group of passengers together because they booked later than everyone else, I have been instructed to move other passengers around the aircraft (even if they have already pre-assigned a seat!) in order to be able to accommodate the couple/group together…?
Whilst I do what is expected of me at work, I don’t feel comfortable about this particular practice because from a passengers perspective, I would personally be fairly annoyed if I found out I had been moved from one-seat to another (unless it was an upgrade of course!:D) without prior notification and/or valid explanation.
My way of thinking is similar to that of low-cost airlines…the later you book and/or check-in online, the less choice of seats you have…and also you run the risk of not being sat next to someone who you are travelling with, or am I just mixing up my own personal preferences with the role of my job?

…but, left is always the port side :diablo:
No it int.
Facing backwards, like in a lot of military and some BizJets I fly in, my left is Stbd. (Can’t beat climbing at +60 degrees incline with Champagne in your hand!)
On normal flights I don’t care which side, so long as I’m slightly aft of the wing. I like to watch the trailing edge work (And steal ideas to improve) (Did I type that out loud!!!). Also – Rear Spar to Fuse joint is probably the strongest part to be sat above.

I prefer the left. I get paid more as pilot in command and I like being the aircraft commander better than being a first officer.

I saw this topic and thought B77W was perhaps moving into the world of tailoring, isn’t that their question? “Left or Right sir?” 😀
Personally I’m a left sort of boy……..I don’t know why, just the way it is! (seats that is!). Actually I’d like to say I’m a Port side boy, cos of course left or right could vary depending on whether you’re sitting in your seat looking forward, or boarding the plane looking backwards:confused:

If we take time of day, sun, runway etc out of the equation I like sitting on the right hand side of the aircraft also.
Being on the right of something might have something to do with the fact I like bowling my right handed rippers “around the wicket” 😉
I don’t remember seeing too many of them in the hotel room, in ACE!!

I normaly prefer to take a window seat on the left, as others have stated, i just find it more natural to lean on this side of my body. Having said that, on a flight which will involve a sunrise/sunset, i will opt for a seat on that side of the plane. In the case of sunrise, i have also fallen into the self conscious decision of whether or not to don the sunnies!!!

I don’t mind either side as long as I’m in whichever cabin is at the front. 🙂

I’m with you on that one! 😀

I prefer to be on the left simply because my neck hurts more when I look out the window for any amount of time when on the right.

Not bothered, as long as I have an aisle seat so I can get out to the toilet!:D

Like Peter, I like to sit on the side where the sun isn’t (if that makes sense). There’s nothing worse for me than being in the cruise with the sun shining straight through the window that you’re next to. I always feel a bit of a fool wearing sunglasses on a plane so I have to close the blind, which is obviously no good if I want to look outside etc…
However, if I have a particular photography interest I may do some prior research to establish which runway would be in use and that would then determine where I sit.

The side that has the sun in the back. So when flying eastbound I’d prefer to sit on the right, when going westbound I’d prefer to sit on the left. For overnights I don’t give a toss.
