Legends 2003 DVD/Video

Does anyone know if this has been released?

I know a lot of contributers to this site were upset with Red Admiral over the Firefly footage distribution, but I had tickets for both days and although I did not see the incident, and was initially unaware of the crash, it ended the Legends weekend for Me,and I didn’t see any more of the show.
So, this is why I’m asking, as it will be the only way for me to see the rest of the show.
Not interested in seeing the incident ,and would hope that it is not shown, but a tribute to the crew and aircraft would be good as per the 1996 legends production.

Regards

Steve

One nice feature is that you can turn the commentary off and just listen to the aeroplanes. This makes it a lot more accesible for repeated viewing in my book.

Bradburger,

i just felt that the wording was a bit ‘matter of fact’ !!

Couldn’t comment on the production as i have not watched it…

It would be interesting to know exactly what price Sky paid for that footage and what penalty they had to pay as a result of the ITC inquirey. I certainly don’t blame the cameraman, he was just doing his job. The ‘producer’ on the other hand 😡 ……….

Even so, with the tape in their possesion, Sky didn’t have to broadcast it so soon. As it happens, the first indication my family had that there was a problem was when my brother Alan heard a radio report that a Firefly had crashed at Duxford. He knew only too well that there was only one Firefly in the UK and that Neil would have been in it. He phoned home and told his stepfather to call RNAS Yeovilton for news. We all know the rest. Fortunately nobody in my family subscribes to Sky, but that is not the point.

The footage was on the news programmes in Australia within 24 hours of the accident as well 🙁

I thought the DVD compared well to previous versions but I hoped it would have some bonus stuff like last years.

I’ll have to take a look next time and see if I can spot you Snapper!

Interesting point you make about pre existing contracts.

Maybe there was a deal that if anything happened, Sky News would get exclusive rights to it. They where there from the Thursday reporting about the show and the fact that Twilight Tear had returned to DX. Also they had interviews with the family of Hubert Davis as well if I recall correctly.

At the time I was pleased they previewed this unique show. Just a shame that events turned out the way they did. 🙁

I wish the full facts regarding the Firefly footage deal would come out.

Cheers

Bar my ugly mug appearing a couple of times, I thought the DVD was very bland. Compared to previous offerings it ranks very badly. Not worth the money.

The thing is, RA probably had pre-existing contracts with Sky which they couldn’t squirm out of. That doesn’t defend them – they could have changed that before signing if they’d been averse to showing it. I for one am pleased that they aren’t welcome back.

Incidentally, a 609 pilot from New Zealnd saw it on the news too – I bet that was pleasant for him, as he knew his friends were there and he himself had been smashed up in a crash during the war.

Damien,

I recall Steve Connor’s post here. I also remember reading your post about the complaint as well.

I’m not trying to defend Red Admiral but just add my opinions and thoughts on the reasons the footage might have been sold on to Sky News so soon after the crash.

I would be interesting to know if Sky News has been banned from setting foot at DX as well.

Cheers

I got mine from Steve.

Dez, I didn’t think the last paragraph was worded disrespectfully.

Whilst I don’t know the full details behind the Firefly crash footage story, I think Red Admiral did a good job with this years DVD despite all the flack they got.

Personally I thought they handled the Firefly accident in a respectful manner.

Cheers

I was given a copy for Christmas,

The last paragraph on the back cover reads

“Though marred by a fatal accident away from the airfield, Flying Legends 2003 will go down as one of the best aviation events in a year that marked the centenary of powered flight.”

Hardly worded respectfully!:(

Shame on you Red Admiral.

Sconner nice gesture from yourself, will be buying my next DVD from you. I had planned to buy Legends from you but never got round to it. As a result i made a contribution to RNHF direct. Keep up the good work.
