Taken from the Hurricane thread which got a bit ‘Off-topic’.
What about the Cierva and sub launched/towed recon autogyro’s, would they qualify for ‘Legends’ ?
Were there any operational egg beaters in WW2???
IF (and a very, very big IF) someone where to build an ‘operational’ ME163, ‘Natter’, or a piloted V1 would they not be ‘Welcome’ since they are not big pistons???
(Yes, I know that the 163 and Natter were designed for high altitude, high speed interception and would be ‘challenging’ to display;) …..oh, and had a tendency to explode on landing; ignore that for the moment)
As for the Meteor, Vampire, Me262 and other parrafin burning ‘noise-makers’ should have some part in the proceedings,
right?
….and lets keep it civilised folks:D 😉

I disagree with some of the people on here, i think that if legends is more of a propeller airshow, but if there is a airworthy me 262 in europe i think the TFC would deff invite it to the airshow. Reasons- the TFC p-51D shot down a Me 262 during ww2?
i think if only early jets were invited it would be good, but no bucaneers or hunters!
i think over the years we might see some more earlier jets? “korea” if you think that the la-9 is not ww2, i would like to see the F-86 dogfighting with the la-9!
But what about the p-59? what if one of those was flying, would people accept it at legends?

There is no place at Legends for anything other than piston engined combat aircraft. If you want to see helicopters, jets, aerobatic types, and trainers, then go to one of the other Duxford airshows.
Or shows elsewhere, for that matter. This is the whole joy of a themed show. ie, it has a theme!!
Much as a love to see Mustangs, Spits, P40s, Corsairs etc, there will only be one star this weekend, and that will be the new Hurricane.
Willow
P.S. Even though I don’t like ’em, I agree that Skyraiders fit into the theme, and are therefore quite welcome at Legends.

I’m not usually that keen on Mustangs, but after standing fairly close to the threshold at Gransden as Rob Davies brought Big Beautiful Doll purring over the hedge to land after their airshow two years ago, I’ll go anywhere to watch that one. 😀
Got to agree with most of what Snapper’s said, but also I’ve got to admit that the reason I’m so looking forward to Legends this year is that I decided not to attend last year after going to four or five on the trot. I felt that I’d lost that spark of enthusiasm, maybe I was overdosed on warbirds? Anyway, I’ve well and truly got the spark back. Can’t wait for Sunday! 😀

Yup. Really. I think the Tigercat is a gorgeous looker – but it leaves me cold. The Bearcat is always superbly displayed, but does nothing for me. Buchons look wrong, the Blenheim I admire greatly, as I do the efforts to make it fly, but like the poor little Lizzie, it doesn’t turn me on. Silver and red spit I don’t bother snapping or watching (I listen). Sally B and the Lanc are great. big. lumbering. beasts. I go with Alexis on that – corkscrew them! (Joke, ok?) No, they impress, and I enjoy watching them. Spits, Hurris (4! Wow!), Corsairs, Hellcat, this here LA-9, P47, P40m P51’s (not that piec of crap TF51 thing they shipped over) etc rock my boat. But give me Janie and Big Beautiful Doll doing what they did last year and i’ll stick the viagra back in my bag! Now THAT was orgasmic.

Really- you skip the Bearcat!! Have you been drinking ?
I skip the Spits that didn’t see WW 2 operational service and the Mustangs that never left Texas !! Only joking!

WW2 jets that went operational are fine in my book. My book has the Skyraider page ripped out though, and I usually skip the Tigercat and Bearcat pages when looking for the sexy bits.

Assuming they all turn up of course
Corsairs aren’t much different
Not had much else in recent years that’s been different
Only things like the A-36 last year
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great show but I’ve seen the Spitfire and Mustang tail chase for the last 5 years
It would also be nice to think that planes later than WW2 can be classed as legends in their own right
The early jets seem to suffer from a lack of bookings and interest

Quit squabbling girls , if you want to argue , don’t go to Leg-ends , come up to Scotland this weekend to East Fortune and watch all the stuff you Southerners didn’t want 🙂

IMHO Legends if for warbirds, always has been, always will be.
Thats what makes it unique, different to other shows. As Stephen Grey once said, Legends captures a particular age, and that is the age of the piston.

Jets such as Vampires, Meteors, Hunters etc are also legends imho
Be nice to have them there for a bit of variety for a change
