Just a quickie…
After many moons of attending Legends, I’ve often said I’d treat myself to a Gold Pass ticket. Well, I’m seriously considering it for this year. Question is, is it worth it? Or am I better off on the “Tank Bank”?
Would really appreciate any opinions from anyone who has taken the plunge before. Is the view of the display any good? Is the extra money well spent? I’d love to hear a few opinions..
Thanks in advance…

Well, it all sort of depends on where you’re coming from, and where you’re going.
I only do one or two shows per year, flying in from abroad. On holiday, it’s easier to swallow that price and go for it. If I was British, driving in from somewhere, I would be more hesitant to paying it. Being there, as one of (if not THE) event and time of the year for me, I gladly pay more to get that marquee with seating, nicer restrooms and a pint of Spitfire Smooth. Only annoyance with that is that you have to pay for the beer. With the price involved, I would think it would come free, for example 3 pints free, the rest you pay for or something like that.
The seating is great. Never had any issues with people standing. Had one chap getting up every time the P-51’s flew by in 2008 to take pictures, but beside that, I never had any issues with people not sitting down.
For foreigners with a deep love for historic aviation, not being able to see these shows at home, I recommend it by far. It’s a once a year chance. Just go for it. You’re on holiday for crying out loud.

Or for less than £40 you are a Friend of Duxford and although their enclosure is not as grand it is a refuge of sorts and the less than £40 brings a load of other benefits as well. I thought £75 was a helluva lot of dosh for what it seemed you got. But others will disagree.

Hi Bob and DCK;
Thanks for the replies. That helps loads. I think that I might well go for it this year…especially if we’re in for a good show this year!
Regards;

I have been a GP ‘patron’ for some years now – it must be popular as it seems to have trebled in size since I started buying the tickets. It has a great refuge from the unpredictable UK weather in the shape of the marquee and when it is really hot it can offer some much needed shade.
The one bug bear I have with it are the selfish people who insist on standing – it is a seating area. All it takes is for a couple of people to decide they want to spend the whole of the flying display shooting pictures, totally ignorant of the fact they are blocking the view of people who either prefer to remain seated or are perhaps a little too aged to stand for any length of time.
Some years there are stewards on hand to enforce the sitting rule (along with signs every ten feet along the fence) but more often than not someone (usually myself) has to ask them to sit down.
The cost of the ticket for one day has crept up to £75 over the years (but that’s inflation for you!), which is over double the gate price, so really if you want a cheap go anywhere ticket just got for the general admission option. It is really the only air show I make room for on the calendar so I’m willing to pay the extra (or it is a birthday present). You do get (or you did) free access to the flightline walk (£5 if you pay-on-the-day) up to 12.30 on both days. So, if you feel like sitting on narrow folding chairs (it used to be slightly more comfortable plastic garden style chairs, but I guess they were too wide when it came down to cramming more in 😉 ) and are prepared to say something should your view be spoilt and it might be a ‘one-off’ attendance, then go for it.

Did it in 06, 08, and 09.
And I think it’s well worth it.
But if it’s worth it for you I can’t say.
