Legends – Help Required on Losing my Cherry

Okay I admit it – I’m a Legends Virgin 😮

There’s a possibility that my two old dears want to lose their cherries as well forming a belated fathers’ day pressie. The stickler though is traffic. Both have been to Mildenhall before and not liked the gridlock. This is why a visit to this year’s RIAT has been slated. This post is not to argue that point but to seek some reassurance and advice of how/when to get there.

Can one simply turn up at the site early and park in the standard car park? Is the park n ride worth it?

Any tips greatfully appreciated!

The only down side is that doesn’t give you much time to enjoy …… the trade stands before the show though.

Hmm, odd concept that, ‘enjoy’ and ‘trade stands’ in the same sentence.

now this way is a bit longer but you can come off the M11 at J11 and follow the A10 to Royston then up the A505 that way you will get parked on the LWH car park.

Alternatively, i usually aim for after mid day. Everyone’s already arrived and the roads are clear. The only down side is that doesn’t give you much time to enjoy the flight line walk and the trade stands before the show though.

Arrive no later than 9 and you should drive straight in. Would recommend aiming for the LWH end car park. Getting out doesn’t normally take more than 20 mins or so.

Very sound advice. If you go with this plan you can’t go far wrong

Are you not part owner of an aeroplane? Fly!

PS just read your PS. Why not?

One of them is infamous for projectile vomiting about 3 or 4 rows on a BAe146… 😮

Will the SkyRaider be there? Never seen one before!

Never had a problem yet on my motorbike, although at the end of the day it does involve a lot of weaving through slow moving traffic. If you are coming in a car then park at the Land Warfare Hall (LWH) end. You always have somewher to sit if it is too hot or even wet and if you should stock up on goodies, then you have somewhere close to hand to off load them and you don’t have to carry it around all day.

I do believe the car park directed to will depend on the direction you’re coming from.

You can go to whichever carpark you wish – just drive through to it. The A505 remains a through-road throughout any airshow weekend.

Following advice from Damien and Robbo at Legends last year, for the September(?) airshow I ignored the signs to turn right and carried on to LWH.
Far better than parking in a field halfway to Cambridge.

I usually have a problem. I’m usually on a tour ‘darn souf’,and usually want to go away in a different direction to the one I arrived. Short answer—YOU CAN’T!

I echo Damien’s sentiments, although I suspect it depends on the direction from which you are heading. I’m normally there by 9.30am, inbound from Norfolk via the A11/A505 and we are generally directed to park on the Officers’ Mess side of the site. No real queues at that time of day. Never tried to continue to the LWH end from the North so can’t comment further.
