The Weather was Ok, tiny bit of drizzle around lunchtime, but we stayed in shirtsleeves all day. The “Horsemen” show was excellent and I’ve never seen (or heard) the like of it before.
The TFC collection was all hearded together inside, would have been nice to have them at least out in the open etc, but then again when I run my own historic aircraft collection……

Well one fact that has been confirmed is that he was ejected and banned from Duxford.
Good enough result IMO…
Prat…..
Awesome result! no more Flying Legends for him! :diablo:
Not sure on the UK laws, but hopefully he gets a public order offence recorded against him and is banned from entering the UK again

I was just saying, if I had to prepare for instance a quality walkaround for a book on the B-25, it would be very hard to find one aircraft which would really look like a WWII one, relating to the accuracy of its markings and its colors.
Maybe you should take a look at ‘Wild Cargo’ – I accept the name is in itself not authentic but every other aspect of the scheme was carefully researched and gives a good impression of the factory B-25 scheme of the period.

Can we be somewhat circumspect on commenting on an incident where we dont know all of the facts please.
Mr Mancus has been happy to use the law to his advantage in the past, and no doubt would not hesitate again.

Was RIAT a Mancus-free event?
Upon hearing about the incident at Duxford an American photographer friend of mine decided to write to Mr Mancus to ‘complain’ about his behaviour.
I though the reply he received today was worth passing on…
He wrote to Mr Mancus:
“Dear Sir…..As an aviation photographer myself, having worked airshows for over 18 years based out of Colorado and having traveled as far away as the UK to photograph said airshows and WWII aircraft and make new friends and acquaintances in that country, I was appalled to hear of your conduct recently in England. One of my friends over there, who recently had a run in with you, was kind enough to regale me with your ‘ugly American’ antics while on the flightline at Duxford, flying ladders and all. I have to tell you, had I been there, I would have made it my personal vendetta to knock some sense into your ugly American head. Luckily, and from what I have heard, you have been banned for the foreseeable future from the Duxford airfield for your incredible behavior. What the he11 were you thinking? Do you really think throwing temper tantrums and bopping folks in the face with your camera lens and demanding everyone clear out while you ‘work’ is the way to win friends and influence people? My god man, where’s your sense of decency and fair play….and moreover, where the he11 have your manners gone? My outrage at hearing this story (from Numerous sources, I might add, not just my friends over there) lasted for hours after hearing of your conduct. If ever you and I are standing on the same flight line at some stateside airshow and you start this ****, you better d@mn well expect an unlubricated monopod up your backside in short order, and that’s a straight up promise….I think you owe a HE11UVA lot of folks an apology, and if you wish to convey one to my friend over there whose face you got up in, I can provide you with an address for him or forward it for you, preferably the latter.
You better rethink your priorities, fella…..or the airshow industry will do it for you! Sincerely,Mark Morris”
Here’s the response he received, complete with ‘big words’:
“Mr. Morris,
You do not know all of the key facts yet you have formed a firm opinion based on your gross misunderstanding of the complete, accurate facts, which, in my judgment, telegraphs what can aptly be described as stupidity on your part. It would be stupid of me to argue with a person who manifests such stupidity because there is no cure for stupidity–yours.
You have jumped to a pejorative conflucison about me which telegraphs you lack a mature mind. So be it.
You are entitled to your opinions. Opinions are like @ss-holes. Everyone has one.
You–and no one else–are entitled to the facts . . . or to twist the facts.
How arrogant, presumputous, and stupid of you to rail against me, assuming you have a good command of the facts.
Facts are stubborn critters.
I am entitled to the facts–the real facts.
The real facts and Duxford’s rules support me and, probably, applicable British law.
Given your jumping to conclusion rant agaisnt me you are invited to go to hell, to burn indefinitely, and to self-f0rnicate.
You triggered that response with your non-diplomatic, uncritical “thinking”, pejorative judgment, jumping to conclusions, initial contact with me.
Perhaps when you know the real facts your view and opinions will change.
I do not owe anyone an apology.
You do not know the facts. You have no personal knowledge. You were not there. You are relying on other people’s self-serving twisted version of what really happened and why.
If you ever cross my path and start to execute on what you threaten me with below you had better be prepared for serious blow back.
Stay clear of me.
The airshow industry had better adopt and enforce excellent rules to keep rude, inconsiderate, bullies from violating others’ enjoyment of air shows, and ban stepladders, etc.
I was the only one that I know of at Duxford who stood up for and demanded enforcement of Duxford’s rules. Am I sorry for that? No!
Duxford’s officials adopted good rules but refused to enforce them! Worse: Instead of disciplining the rule violators they ejected and banned the one person who demanded that they enforce their own excellent rules. As such, Duxford’s officials made a mockery of their rules, shuffled the rules like a card shark shuffles a deck, took the easy way out, and rewarded the rule violators and encouraged them to continue to violate the rules, all of which makes for a bigger problem.
You are now part of a growing number of people who have threatened me with physical violence. You have a mob mentality–lynch mob, take the law into your own hands, mentality. Go to he11.
Given your–and others’ reaction–a compelling argument can be made that airshows are becoming an attractive nuisance–for bullies who viloate the rules, with impunity, because they are allowed to do so by officials who refuse to enforce their own rules.
Me being ejected and banned only proves how inept and stupid some of Duxford’s officials are and how grossly mismanaged some aspects of that airshow were.
— Peter Mancus”
I think that speaks volumes… He’s right, the rest of the world is wrong and he doesn’t care what anyone thinks. As somebody who witnessed his behaviour at Duxford it doesn’t surprise me.

Because the cop quoted bogus law & illegally charged him…It looks like the fruitloop may well have been in the right in this case..
If he was illegally charged then he has the chance to have his petition upheld and his conviction quashed. Mancus has even been removed from Nellis AFB media events. The chap it appears is a ticking time bomb. RIAT Fairford probably won’t pass without a Mancus incident.

From skimming through the first part of that case it certainly looks like the cop and his “bus driver sidekick”* were wrong – simply refusing him entry on the basis of his refusal to submit to a bag search would have been sufficient. Then if he had kicked off and spat his dummy, they may have had grounds to arrest him.
*Mancus was obviously riled by the fact a hobby bobby, who had a fulltime job driving buses, was involved in the removal of his liberty!!!
Whatever, the man has some pretty extreme views (everyone allowed to carry a concealed weapon?) and he probably feels that school massacres are a justifiable by-product of the right to bear arms.
I’d travel miles to hear him spout his Constitutional claptrap in front of the local beak if he’d decided to kick off with one of our finest!!!!

The American chap already has a criminal conviction over an incident at a US airshow during 2002. Mancus refused a camera baggage/trolley search and the resulting incident led to trial and conviction.

On the contrary to British warbirds, whoses finishes are almost always spot on concerning paintings and markings.
P.S. I would too dream to see one day a Buchon fly in its marvellous silver or blue Spanish airforce finishes !
By: Arabella-Cox - 14th July 2009 at 20:02
By the way there are plans to chance the colourscheme of the Dutch B-25. They also planning to install a Top Turret, GunPacks and replace the wooden machine guns by real notfunctinal machine guns. I do not know when they gonna apply the new colourscheme and what the new scheme is gonna be.
By: Arabella-Cox - 14th July 2009 at 19:55
As far as I know the Dutch B-25 is in accurate WOII Colourscheme. She is carrying a scheme that was applied on a Dutch B-25 Bomber flown by the KNIL(Royal Netherlands Indian Army) in the Pacific during WOII
By: ChrisDNT - 14th July 2009 at 18:56
There’s something I don’t quite understand.
For the B-25, there are hundreds if not thousands of authentic and colorful finishes available, all perfectly documented, and it seems it’s almost impossible to find one Mitchell with an accurate WWII finish.

As always, magnificent show.
My brother, a first timer, pointed out that he thought the Spitfires sort of lost the spotlight to the 109 and 190 because they were flown to soft and too slow.
The TFC fleet didn’t fly, but the show didn’t loose much quality…a little bit I have to admit, but the aircrafts that did come, really did make up for most of it. Sad not to see two Gladiators flying, but I don’t dwell on those parts, I focus on the positive and there were maaany of them.
Is it just me or was the french guy absolute hyperactive this time around? He went absolute nuts. No UFO and alien theories though, which was a sad, as I loved that comment last year. I don’t mind his expertise at all, which he got, but maybe someone should tell him to pipe down when the planes fly by as so we can hear the engines? However, on saturday we stayed behind the Mustangs, and we did not hear one pip from the guy…just place yourself in a strategically good position and he won’t annoy you. No need to go places where you have a speaker in your face.
We were seated at Gold pas on sunday and the guy just couldn’t stop talking. And it was JUST him this time around..the others barely spoke.
Happy to meet a few fans of my “foreigners guide” from Holland at the Eagle Pub on Friday. If they’re on this forum, be sure to say hello. Caught me rather off guard as I did not think anyone read my rubbish at all!

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that he not attend, he has a wealth of experience and knowledge. He should just learn the value of silence at the appropriate time. It’s similar to being a sports commentator. Saying nothing at the right time and letting the scene tell it’s own tale is a skill that all the best commentators have.
This perfectly sums up the commentary situation for me.
Apart from that the show was excellent, really first class. Especially when you consider what was locked in the TFC hangar (for whatever reason).
Here’s to next year

Landroverman thanks for the message here !
Steve:
Thanks ..thanks for the note on the 506th PIR guys at Duxford. Saw many of them early on in June in Normandy with so many British veterans. It is a special feeling just to speak to these men . Having as many here have..read so much about them and this generation. Yes you get a lump in the throat and misty eyes now just refelecting on what I saw in Normandy and each time I meet a WW II veteran. Love this forum and the great photos and comments posted here. I see some of you have taken the time to post some videos on Youtube…. thanks. Nothing to cheer one up than to hear and see that wonderful Spitfire cutting across the skies of the UK ! Nice to see some good soul has posted that outstanding series ” Spitfire Ace” on Youtube. This needs to be out on dvd for sure. Thanks again Steve on the thoughts of the veterans. Speaking as a veteran myself of the US Army I hold your country in the highest regard & its military. First class lads for sure and have enjoyed my association with them in the past ! Hope my travels will soon take me back to enjoy a day at Duxford. Take care !
A salute to all my friends in the UK !

I’ve read these posts with interest and felt compelled to add my tenpennyworth.
1. The show was, as ever excellent. Highlights- although difficult to select were the Piper Cubs – almost Storch like in front of the tank bank, plus the final B25 take off on the grass for the Balbo-awesome.
2. It was much busier than usual, we found a gap on the flightline in front of a certain american gent (more of him later.)
3. The Horsemen were superb but I’m surprised that no-one has made comparisons to the Brietling Fighters displays so sadly missed (unless you go to Goodwood Revival meeting) where they are there in spirit if not in name.
4. My 9 year old son turned round to look at aforementioned american and said “Who’s that idiot?”
5. BC redeemed himself when he made a comment about americans doing what they want to do, accompanied by a rousing cheer behind us.
6. The two french gentlemen behind us when asked for the first time not to use their ladders duly complied with good grace, especially when the steward (a good guy american by his accent) pointed out that with one of them being taller than me (6 foot +) didn’t actually need a ladder.
We are very privileged to enjoy such a dynamic event so full of superlatives. Well done to all involved.

Nice Photo Robbo. The pie eater chap picking his nose hopefully doesn’t frequent this forum! (No its not me, I went on Sunday!) Are you sure that arrowed person is holding a camera? It looks like part of a Saturn V rocket to me. It was a fantastic show and I can only agree with those who have posted positive comments on this site. The weather helped (as ever) of course but I had to keep pinching myself to remind myself that I was in the 21st Century and in a recession to boot. I guess everyone has their favourites but I really enjoyed the 3-ship B25s and the Fw 190 of course. The WWI group of “flying venetian blinds” were great and the Sea Furies awesome. Bernard doesn’t get any easier on my ears (because I’m getting grumpier I suppose) and he tends to waffle when he should be preparing us for the next event; the Lancaster’s arrival was a classic example. Of course, it was the only heavy bomber we had in WW2. This bit isn’t really Bernard’s fault but he tended to give that impression that it was so. If a Halifax and Stirling were parked out on the line (even better if flyable!) then this would redress the balance somewhat. It could happen of course, stranger things have! I have done a little bit of Air Show commentating myself, many years ago, but I always took the view that you should inform, educate and, if time, entertain the public. We know its a BBMF Lancaster but a very quick brief on why it has different Sqn codes on either side of the fuselage would be interesting as would the mention that this particular Lanc was built right at the end of WW2. I would like to be a little better educated and informed about what I’m seeing – nothing too complex but not all esoteric waffle. That said, his English is tres bon compared to my French and the hardware that flew over from France to display for us at Legends was “formidable!”
