So, about three months ago my good mate Dan South, who works for McLaren Forumal One said to me “So, when is your aeroplane going to fly?” and being the laid-back, generally nice chap I am I said “Before your F******g car wins”
I almost managed it. Today Kimi won and I lost a tenner but it was good fun and I almost got there first!

Thanks for sparing the time yesterday to chat – she looks magnificent – a real tribute to the time and effort you have taken.
Thanks Paul, there is a lot going on this week to get ready for engine runs and I have a lot of small things to get sorted. Prop will go on for real tomorrow and then I might dribble some fuel into her.
Look forward to seeing her fly (or even taxi)
Not as much as I am!
You never know, I might make that taxi-in in a few weeks.

3 Litre V10 4 valves per cyl. Upto 19,000 RPM Reputed to give around 700 HP.
Bit noisy 😮

OK, so 3 litre for 700hp is 233.33 hp per litre so 8.2 x 233.33 = 1913hp!
I think that might stretch the engine bearers!

PS Dan came down today and collected his tenner. He also gets a bonus if the team win which is somewhat larger than a tenner. He said the tenner was a lot more fun to win. He also kindly acknowledged that it wsa a close run thing.

Indeed. I did try to work out how many horsepower my engine would have it was the same spec as the F1 engines. They are 1500cc? and stick out about 600hp? Mine is 8.2 litres (500 cu in) and sticks out 145!

Is there an official first flight day yet ?? 🙂
Nope, it’ll fly when no one is looking. Then I might make an announcement!
Still a lot to do but way less than when I started.

Check out the pics on a couple of the other threads (A small success). The cowling is not on yet for the simple reason it has not been made. I need to get a van so I can get a sheet of MDF to make the jig, but moving the aeroplane and getting settled at Popham came first. The cowling has been started and I just need to get the jig done so Steve an finish it. The paperwork is going to take just as long and I don’t ned it to do engine runs but this week should see the jig done.
Spent most of today down there but did very little work. I think the longest I wasn’t talking to someone who popped in was about ten minutes!
Fun though, wasn’t it Paul!
Dan is coming down in the morning to collect his tenner (and have breakfast) and then I will finish fiddling with the carb and nail the plugs in ready for engine runs. The only thing then left to do before that is to fit the prop properly.
