Leuchars airshow 2003.

Hi guys,

just some piccies from Leuchars this year. All ground shots I am afraid. My small digi cam only allows me to take ground shots in good light so here you are. Hopefully post flying shots in a couple of weeks.

Forgot to add. Nice paint on this Luftwaffe Tornado.

In our office its Iain’s in their multiple spellings that cause problems. We even have an Iain who isn’t but prefers to be called Iain (he is in fact John).

Ken

Ken , that is strange – my dad’s name is John M George , but – he has always been known as Iain !!! . At least you ken which Ken I’m referring to , thanks Ken

I ken that Ken ( DHFan ) is the lucky sod with a pint of ale in his hand in one of the recent photo threads .

Almost as bad as our office , we have

Alastair George (me)
Alastair Brown
and Alastair Kerr – there is only one other person in the office so as you can imagine there is a fair bit of confusion in the office every day !!

Sounds like it would be much simpler to call everybody Bruce. (Hoping everybody remembers the Python sketch).

Re the RAF Staff car pic. As far as I can tell, although I wouldn’t bet more than a pint or so on it, it’s a 1938 or ’39 Hillman Minx.

Thanks Ken , could you do me a favour ( again ) I’ve lost that addy for the chap who was selling books could you send it to
ageorge@haemonetics.com
I thought the chap was selling second-hand books – I got the Atkins RAF Ground Equipment book for £8 and it’s brand new !! – excellent listing – highly recommended !!!.
I would be very interested to find out about the Staff car and any other cars the RAF may have used in wartime , I can’t afford an Aeroplane but I wouldn’t mind restoring a car .

Thanks for the photos Scott, didn’t do the hangars so good to see some of the stuff hidden in there. Must agree that Leuchars isn’t the best place for ground-to-air shots, since you have the sun in your face most of the time.

Pity the Draken couldn’t take-off for display (reheat failure)

Will post some of my shots when i get round to loading them into the computer.

Thanks for the photos, Scott. I had to work on Saturday, so it’s goo to see what I missed. I would have loved to see Sally B, but I’m just glad there was at least some interesting aircraft there. It’s also no surprise that there were multitudes of Tornadoes on display! Having said that, I love the Luftwaffe Tornado paint scheme.

Do please post your photos of the flying display when you get them developed.

Thanks A330 and TJ.

I knew the Ukranian was an IL? something but couldnt remember. It was well impressive anyway.

TJ thanks for that I can never remember all the F types and somehow I always get them wrong. Problem is they all look the same to me.
