Leuchars – Fri/Sat

A pretty good display despite the weather. Chucked it down with rain all day Friday and dull/grey on Saturday.

Here are a few pics I took, apologies for the quality – still getting to grips with my camera.

Nice pics. Have you tried stitching the 2nd & 3rd Canberra pics together ?

Haven’t thought of doing that. May have a try tonight.

????

Did I miss something or was the the Friday Darren.

Dry slight wind cold at point but only because of the North sea wind but bloody roasting when everyone crowded round right at the flight line to see the reds.

Damien – I did keep snapping away, despite the rain, as I need all the practise I can get. Surprised my dinky little FZ10 didn’t pack up with the soaking it got, but it kept going.

Skyraider3D – Thanks for the comment on the Red’s pic and suggestion on the purple edges. Got a load of photos with that nasty purple edges – serves me right for using a Raynox convertor. Was trying to find ways to get rid of that.

Good timing on those Red Arrows! Nice shot!

Tip: Desaturate and darken the Magenta colour channel on the Chinook pic to get rid of the nasty purple edges.

Damien – thanks for the comment on the Canberra pic.

I did wonder why the ‘pros’ kept their camera’s in their bags for most of the two days, when normally they’d be out shooting pics like there was no tomorrow. Took a while for me to realise that the conditions were less than ideal, especially for ‘action’ pictures.

Anyway I’m still learning this photography lark, so need all the practise I can get.

Daz,

Most of the stuff displayed is fairly antique (tongue firmly in cheek), but there is usually a decent amount of piston aircraft most years and you can meet some interesting individuals.

I usually do the two-day enthusiasts package and on the Saturday we share the same area as the veterans do. Over lunch on the Saturday, my brother and I got talking to an ex-mossie pilot. It was just idle chat about the flying display, dire weather, etc, but it was the way he spoke about flying the mosquito, as if it was nothing special.

Granted it’s a bit expensive (£90 for the two days), but worth every penny.

Lamps – thanks for the comments 🙂

Haven’t been to Leuchars for years – put off, mostly, since it used to be mainly modern hardware involved. However, nice to see some warbirds in there – Spit XVIII, P-51D and Invader 🙂
