leuchars vulcan display

hi all, was delighted to see the vulcan confirmed for leuchars at last. only one small gripe though. according to the vtts website she is only due to arrive, display and then leave. can anyone explain why that might be the case? wont be the same not seeing her on the ground, taxiing and of course the howl.

Will be delighted to see her there again regardless of whether she is on the ground or not. Every display of 558 is a bonus.

fair comment. should be thankful she is coming at all. mind you it was superb to see her arrive on the friday a couple of years ago with a typhon in tow. cant help but wonder if this is the last ever show. gutted.:(

Good news even if no time on the ground.

I am hoping the Reds are back in the air again by Sept. 10th as well.

At present the Hawk T1s (all 170 of them) are grounded.

I suspect we have a lot less than 170 operational Hawk T1s…

At least 28 have been written off, and a fair old % are in storage

You will still experience the Olympus howl during 558’s display.

Not nescessarily, it didn’t howl at this years Yeovilton show (which it was based on the ground at) and seemed sedate, yet at the previous years’ show it did and seemed more dramatic. According to another thread it can depend on the pilot and routine, and I dare say weather etc will also play a part.

Plus you might get a bonus one on the missed approach which is included in the routine this year 🙂

Vulcan Display Finale

You will still experience the Olympus howl during 558’s display. Its display on the Saturday at RIAT Fairford the delta performed a spiral climb out, very spectacular, hopefully this is repeated at Leuchars. (The RIAT Sunday display was performed with a lower cloud base, and possibly why the climb out was not repeated,……hope we are lucky!.

I have to say the Leuchars line up looks pretty damn thin, even with the inclusion of the Vulcan.
Possibly drop the Reds and the Solo Hawk out of it and there will be massive holes to fill in the schedule.

The static isn’t in any better shape though the Ski equipped LC130 is a really nice addition, I just hope that this isn’t it’s the shows final year fading away with a whimper. 🙁

It will be for sound financial and logistics reasons. But you should still get howl, don’t worry! 🙂

I would imagine it’s down to the additional cost of having ground crew up there to see to her.
