LGW viewing gallery

As many of you know the LGW viewing gallery closed a few weeks ago, I sent BAA an email to which I recieved this response a day later:

Dear Mr Lewis

Thank you for contacting the Gatwick Feedback Team. I am sorry to hear of
you and your friends and families disappointment about the closure of the
sky view viewing terrace.

I am afraid the area had to be shut down due to new developments which
were decreasing the view over the airfield, there was also a safety issue
with all the construction traffic involved with the extension of the
Arrivals Baggage Reclaim Hall.

There will be no spectators area for the foreseeable future, due to
Gatwick’s expansion. I realise that this will cause a lot of
disappointment among a lot of people but to date no alternative venue has
been put forward.

Yours sincerely

Samantha Funnell

I complained to Heathrow PR Manager about the prolonged closure of the viewing terrace after 9/11 and received no reply!
They think the Heathrow Visitor’s Reception Area is good enough.
NO WAY! There is a road between that and the Airport with fence, too far away, into sun! The viewing terrace was superb!
Anyone else complain to Heathrow about this and got a reply?

Ive been to the viewing deck of LGW 2years back (you had to pay) it had good views. I never knew it was closed or the fact that LGW was getting ‘new developments’ whats being done?

At least you got a reply, most places wouldn’t bother.

Interesting for me to observe the old viewing area at GLA, closed for over twenty years is now being converted into more shops almost completely obliterating the views of the domestic concourse from the terminal.:(
