hey 🙂
Visited Heathrow with a friend yesterday, and I managed to get these shots.
thankfully, the weather was nice to us after showers were expected, and we headed over to 27R at first, planting ourselves next to Concorde. We stayed there once rwy landing/takeoff operations swopped over allowing us to snap aircraft lining up and beginning their rolls.
Then headed over to Myrtle Avenue, already fairly busy with other spotters and photographers. Then we popped over to T3, walked through check in and arrivals and then the multi storey car parks for ramp and rotation shots – by which time camera batteries and light were dying.
then we headed back to the southern perimeter to watch aircraft arriving in the dark before heading back home. great day.
yes, contrary to popular belief, viewing and photography from the multi storey car parks is still possible ( i think so anyway) – we managed it with no problems – just dont go right to the top open level. there is a fairly new multi storey car park linked to T3 by a glass foot bridge – we went to the level below the top level and viewing of the T3 ramp and rotations after 3 pm are really good. views of landing aircraft, T5, new control tower and T4 are also possible from other car parks – again, we didnt have any problems.

in the distance can be seen the London skyline. Visible is the ‘Gherkin’, ‘Tower 42’, the London Eye, very possibly Big Ben (would be around the Eye), and just poking out of the bmi hangar, Canary Wharf and the Docklands. Thats a good 20 miles from the airport.
I’ve never seen that from LHR and I work there. I presume it’s because I never see the view from the top of a car park. Interesting shot.
1L.

I’m up for it!
Brilliant shots Adam, looks like you were placed just a short distance away from where I were when I went down, I was sat in the bus stop under the approach for 27R!
Hopefully will get mine on soon, very busy at the mo!
thanks. lol, I saw said bus stop and it reminded me of your visit. lol

Excellent shots Adam. I really must treat my camera to a trip to LHR sometime!
Anyone up for a LHR meet maybe?

Just thought i’d chuck this photo into the pile. Its not a very good photo at all, but i was amazed at what it shows. taken from one of the car parks looking towards the maintenance base – in the distance can be seen the London skyline. Visible is the ‘Gherkin’, ‘Tower 42’, the London Eye, very possibly Big Ben (would be around the Eye), and just poking out of the bmi hangar, Canary Wharf and the Docklands. Thats a good 20 miles from the airport. I was rather impressed.

thanks

Hey
I Love the Turkmenistan Airlines picture – I’ve never seen a snap with a bird so close next to a landing plane!

Small world!
Ahoy!
Thanks for sharing the pics. Very nice captures. I’ve attached a 100% crop from one of my recent images. Seems ‘Mustang Sally’ gets around a bit!

Looks good. Very interested in the parking area photos. What kind of lense is required there? 300mm, 400mm?
I was using 380mm throughout the day, which is perfect for the ramp shots, but 400+ would be best for the activity on the runways.

Very good shots Adam. I must give Heathrow a visit before the end of the summer holiday, but only if the weather is good (unlikely then :))
