LHR-LYS-LHR-MAN

BAW9900 > LHR-LYS-LHR G-EUXI

We’d already checked ourselves in for this flight on ba.com so as soon as we got to the terminal we went straight through to the North Security Area where there were long queues because only 4 people were on the desks so that took us about 20 minutes plus to get through, when we got up to the desks they had this new security system where they had fingerprint detectors cameras and everything. After we got past the desks it was through to another security area the traditional hand baggage, shoes etc check, and the walk through metal detectors.

After this it was now through to departures at this point it was around 11:00 and according to the departure boards our flight was due to board from A10 at 11:30. Little did we know this was on the lowest level so we had to quickly rush down a series of escalators with many of the other passengers who were stuck in the security hall along with us.

There was also another flight who was leaving at pretty much the same time and that was to Edinburgh so we had those passengers trying to get down these escalators as quick as possible aswell.

So here we all were at A10 with 2 automatic doors infront of us no airbridge which presumably meant we were gonna bussed to the aircraft, and eventually the bus arrived and took us out to our aircraft this Airbus A321 which infact I’ve never flown on or flown with BA before so this was quite nice, It was a all leather seated interior and my seat on this aircraft was 17A which was quite a nice wingview. The Cabin Crew and pilot did the normal spiel about the weather in Lyon, Safety Demonstration (without the video because they broken the tape playing trying to rewind it from the last flight.)

The flight to Edinburgh (G-BUSK) had already pushed back from its gate as we started our pushback from stand 527.

And so after pushback we were released from the supertug and we waited for around 20 Minutes, I took this time to look over the wing and because Heathrow were using 9R for departures I had a pretty good look at some of the traffic that was departing.

After the 20 minutes were up we were once again towed back onto our stand, to get back on the buses and back to the terminal for our connecting flight to Manchester (BAW9946) which was leaving on the B Gates which meant we had to get what the airport call a Track Transit System or (TTC) But it didnt go all that well because half way through our journey on this driverless train because it just stopped moving, and a man’s voice came over the tannoy within the train saying ‘We are aware the train has stopped moving please stay calm, members of our team will be there shortly.’

We we were stuck there for 5 minutes, quite a long reaction time to get people off the train and onto a emergency platform to walk the rest of the way to our gate. Soon we were back on the ‘plane’ to Manchester.

And it was soon the end of the T5 Trial after that 😉
It was a long way to walk around on the departures and flight connections trial we did. But the views from inside of the terminal you get of the runways is amazing. We couldnt take pics inside anyway because of BAA Regulations but yeah I’d like to come back when its fully open and the 28th of March does’nt seem that far away and from my eyes there seemed to be quite alot more shopfitting and electronic stuff yet to do.
