LHR/MAN 26-28/11/04 Photo Report

As some of you may know, I have spent the past weekend visiting Heathrow and Manchester (after flying up on Bmi). i also got to spend some time at BHX, but pics were very limited because of lighting conditions, and the spot where we were standing. I flew up with Mark L on Friday morning after a 4am start (we were at LHR 5 hours early to do some spotting before checking-in) and then travelled to MAN on a Bmi A321. We met Andrewm who was at MAN ready for us, as the original purpose of our trip was to display his A320 simulator at the Birmingham FS-show, helping to promote our charity event.

G-MIDH flew us both ways, and I would rate Bmi very well (especially with their sandwich on the outbound flight, must be hard to serve a full A321 in the 25 minute hop!). We had a very friendly flight crew outbound who allowed us to visit the cockpit after flight, and allowed us to take the pilot’s seats (photos of which can be seen below). Wasn’t much particularly interesting at LHR in the morning, but the fantastic light made up for it. We didn’t spend much time at MAN on the Friday, but have managed to get a fair amount of shots from yesterday afternoon (interesting visitors included an An-12 of Vega Air, and a recently painted Fly Air aircraft. First shots below are from LHR on Friday morning…..

Thanks very much TJC and Grey Area. Sorry TJC, I can’t answer your question. Maybe someone else can?

Grey, shame we couldn’t have met up briefly. If that’s the case you would have probably seen me take off, Bmi A321 G-MIDH around 2:30pm.

Brill pics. Dont see too many cockpit shots.
One question, probably answered before, if so I missed it sorry. Why do any BA 757s I see have that black ring around the nose? Is there a particular reason? Thanks for any answers.

Thanks very much to all the people who have commented. Mark, here’s the 2 very poor photos of us. Had to increase the levels dramastically just to be able to see any colour…

Great shots Dan, they have come out really well. I wonder if its worth putting up the 2 shots of us in the cockpit, or was the exposure really too bad?

Try putting the PIA shot onto airliners, I have seen a few like it on there before and they have been very popular. Thanks guys for an interesting and enjoyable weekend! 😀

That night shot is simply awesome! If the large version is as good as the smaller one, and why shouldn’t it, then you must upload that to JP and A.net!

I’ve already tried it to JP, but they rejected it. Apparently the horizon is ‘unlevel’ (this sin’t true, because the viewing park slopes down and I actually had it set up on a tripod, so had to be level) and also ‘bad motive’. The screeners obviously didnt have any taste for some unusual pics today 🙁

Doubt it’ll be worth trying on airliners.net, if JP rejected it.
