LHR Terminal 5 – Open Date

I’m surprised no one picked up on this. It is exactly one year from today that London Heathrow (LHR) Airport is due to open Terminal 5.

Flight outbound was fine- however the inbound was something else last night. All flights were cancelled, no seats with Air France and the eurostar was full. Gave me the option of coming back this morning (did want to do that as they had on certainty of getting me back until saturday morning). I got the last easyJet flight back to Luton (the very last seat) at a not very nice cost of £200! Now trying to get my money back – which has been promised!!!

Flew out at lunchtime today to Newcastle, got to say the place is absolutely breathtaking. And a real breeze to travel through. OK we were a bit delayed due to the bags issue that now has become far worse than earlier in the day, but aside of the teething troubles today (which will get sorted), I think its a stunning terminal and has totally raised the bar of expectation as to what a world class terminal should be like. Well done BA and BAA (but slapped wrists all round for day 1 teething troubles)

I hate to be negative, but this is exactly what was predicted.

I won’t be flying out of it until August, but i’m going to London next week with a beloved Virgin Pendolino, and i’m planning a visit to T5, and to see the SIA A380 before heading home.

I have booked myself on it – I am a travel agent and got it at a very resonable rate. Checked in for the flight this morning and there seemed to be 17 rows of club.

I’m flying out of T5 tomorrow for Athens. I am hugely looking forward to the whole experience, in no small part down to my ability to enter the Galleries First Lounge. From all the pictures I’ve seen and the few BA staffers I have spoken to, it is meant to be an absolutely exquisite lounge, so I shall be sure to take lots of photographs from both inside and out to post on here. 😉

I hope to god that all goes well, it should be an interesting few days ironing out any problems that crop up.

BA and BAA say this will solve all their problems handling wise, so the world is watching with bateted breath lets wait and see, Im not overly optimistic Im afraid but hoping that they prove me wrong.

Tomorrow is my first day off so I will be nowhere near T5 or any other part of LHR.

ZB057 are you one of the many invited guests (I believe there are 90 in Club Europe) or have you booked to travel on the flight?

Captain Lynn Barton.

British Airways have selected their first Woman pilot to be the captain of the first flight to arrive at Terminal 5.

My question is, are there any members on here that will be passing through Heathrow Terminal 5 on the first day of operation?

Will not be anywhere near T.5 today or tomorrow, but my connection and thoughts will be with Lynn Barton who taught me, and many others to fly in the last century!:D
