LHR Yesterday

Sorry about this folks. Had some real hassles yesterday. Charged all 3 sets of batteries up, got there and 2 had died. Not sure what’s going on there yet – investigations are to get underway shortly. So had to save the final working set for Concorde – then the camera decided it’d be a prick. Shame, because I could have had some nice shots. Would have had a cracker of Conc – if it was in focus! I just got in a panic; I hadn’t had the afternoon to play, and when Conc came in it was make or break. These are below par – but they’re memories. Only other shot I can offer you is a JAL 747, which is pic of the day. First shot I took aswell – shortly before the batteries decided they’d had enough after about 5 minutes of use. I only wish I’d been to see Concorde more, and that I’d taken the film SLR with me instead today. 🙁

Once again – apologies for the ****ty pics. 🙁

I stayed for the evening departure aswell. Witnessed the final departure of a Concorde to JFK. “WOW” doesn’t cover it. Went to Myrtle Avenue to see her blasting overhead; hundreds and hundreds of people there, all for one reason. Roads were chaos, but the atmosphere was awesome, people just coming up and chatting. There was a TV crew there also. It was so cool, I can’t begin to tell you. The noise was awesome – and the cameraman shouting “here we go” when she began her takeoff roll from the other end, met by cheers from everyone, followed by silence, the mighty roar of her engines, and then more cheers and a round of applause. She looked supreme, her burners lighting up the sky, and her lights on – you could see the whole of the plane, like you were looking at her during a daytime departure.

Possibly my best aviation moment of all time. Shame that we have to say goodbye, to what is now without doubt my favourite aircraft of all time. Farewell – thanks for the memories.
