When I returned from LHR to Brussels on april 12 2003, I flew an old A320, but it had wingfences. There were no overhead screens, which are usually there on the 319 and newer 320’s.
Very nice pictures. You shouldn’t talk, Brussels only has 5 daily 767’s or so and the twice weekly dc10’s, for the rest it’s all 320’s, 737’s and ARJ’s. The cargo widebodies usually land on 25R, which is not accesible by spotters. And that for the capital of Europe.

As regards the 320’s, there are only 21 Worldwide without Wingfences [the original -100 series] (no 320’s have winglets ;)), 5 are with BA, the other 16 with Air France (Some of these having originally been operated by Air Inter) .

The 5 with BA are G-BUSB, BUSC, BUSD, BUSE and BUSF. These were originally ordered by BCal, although BA had taken them over before they were delivered, so they all sported Landor colours from the start.

nb G-BUSG to G-BUSK are BA A320-200’s.

Ta,

I knew they were wing fences . 😉

Another question…. In my G-BUSE photo, what are the engines ?

2) I flew on the 767 from FRA the other month. Think they also operate to Manchester, Madrid, and even Edinburgh. Sure there are many others, but those just to name a few.

They also operate to BCN, PRG, MXP, BRU etc… (all from personal experience)

Actually looks like G-BUSE was with BA from the start, however BUSB and BUSC were with Bcal before hand. BUSB was msn # 6, one of the very first A320’s to be delivered back in 1989.

1) I think the smallest I have seen are CRJ’s of Lufthansa Cityline and Air Nostrum. Also the occasional ERJ of Air France Regional and Bmi Commuter.

3) The ones without winglets are A320-100’s, the first type of A320 to come off the line. Not sure about their background as to whether they come from Bcal or not.

AFAIK, all A320’s without winglets in the BA fleet were originaly delivered to Caledonian.

why on earth was this old thread bounced back to the top?

Because someone perhaps missed it the first time and felt they had something to add? Permissable as it’s only a month old and people are on holidays etc just now.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing.

3: I saw a BA A320 leave Glasgow for LHR the other day without winglets, is this one of the early fleet slated for British Caledonian ? (G-BUSE)

I think so. I’m pretty sure all the early G-BUS* 320’s were the original BCal models.

Great selection as ever Dan…

I too have questions.

1: Is the ATR the smallest regular scheduled passenger aircraft using LHR, if not what is it ?

2: What “short haul” routes does BA’s 767 operate from LHR

3: I saw a BA A320 leave Glasgow for LHR the other day without winglets, is this one of the early fleet slated for British Caledonian ? (G-BUSE)

I’ve already said what camera I use – an Olympus C-2100UZ.

Taken either from Myrtle Avenue for 27L arrivals, or the crashgate at the roundabout under the 27R approach. Police and security is no hassle.

Maybe now following the’security’ documents found by the roadside, you risk being arrested! Very good photos I must say..Thanks for showing them..

Anyone got any idea what the brown muck is on the Kuwait 777 engine?

poo perhaps?

Nice collection of pics again! Some details missing though..where were they taken from and what camera did you use? Not able to easiliy get to LHR these days..so photos like these are really welcome..Is there a dedicated viewing area provided anywhere now??Is security tight around the perimiter roads?..
