Reading the B-29 / B-24 Squadrons December newsletter …… it suggests that only the Liberator’s name and nose art will revert back to “Diamond Lil” and they will add a “neutrality” flag on the other side of the nose. The latter change would be correct for the current paint scheme ~ except the black paint should extend up the side of the fuselage.

Winter maintenance is due to run from late January thru end of March 2012 ~ so we should get to see the revised scheme sometime in April

Here’s a couple of snaps of the current scheme from Wings Over Houston 2011

I like the old Diamond Lil colour scheme and while I enjoy historic colours it would be nice if some aircraft could be painted in their non standard, civilian, or owners preferred colours on occasion.
Strange but Historic Jets seem to be immune from criticism when it comes to colours. I’ve seen a bright red Mig15, bright yellow L29 and various other colours not to mention Hunters painted like newspapers and sunbursts.
I think it would be great if the BBMF could have a season in civilian or non wartime colour schemes. I don’t think anyone would complain if the Lanc turned up Silver or in Maritime colours accompanied by a Grey / Red Spitfire and Blue / Gold Hurricane.

I don’t know why people (mainly in the US) favour ridiculous colour schemes, nose art and identities for their historic aircraft. It’s great that any historic aircraft is flying but when they are ultra rare, I would much prefer to see them in properly researched colour schemes, representing real aircraft.

Didn’t Winston Churchill use this mark of B-24? It would be great to this painted in that scheme for a change.

that true but the ussaf did paint some of there liberators in wierd colours but the tradional paint jobs are nicers then made up ones

It was in Flypast. I wonder what the nose art will be like?
