Apparently she was at Biggin to fulfil some corporate work for her sponsors. The story goes that to fill her to the full 10 hour endurance will cost in the region of £11K at UK avgas prices. So if you get the chance, spend a few bob on a walk-through and buy some of their souvenirs at Legends.

Two ship display

Chatting to the Liberty Belle lots today and others from Duxford, it looks like it will be a 2 ship display.
The french meet the US over the UK!

Still it will be a great occasion anyway!

Liberty Belle sure looks amazing – interesting to see all gun positions installed and the slightly dull shade of coated metallic paint to give the airframe some protection.

Hope she misses the thunder and lightning show I’ve just driven through on the way back from Duxford. Apparently she’ll be flying on the next two days and Legends obviously.

Indeed, was wondering the same here in Melbourn.

Oh, and taken from another forum…

Sally B has cancelled her display for the Sanicole airshow in Belgium, July 20. She will be out till August. So no 3 B-17s in the sky over Duxford for the flying legends.

Very sad if it’s true…:(

does anybody know if there’s a display schedule for Liberty Belle?

a flypast over Burtonwood would be nice (but alas very unlikely)!!

Any news on if Sally B’s going to be up and running? Three B-17s in the air at Legends would be amazing!!

Rocketeer and I crawled all over her at Oshkosh back in 2005 (best big show ever…White Knight, Global Flyer, 7…yes 7 B17’s..awesome show !!!!…the list went on).

They’ve done a fantastic job on the restoration and to fly her here as well. You just know She’s going to be photographed within an inch of her life at Legends for sure and will be the new wallpaper on umpteen thousand PC’s.:D

Would be interesting to find out if the crew managed to get any pics on the fly-over of the spot where Glacier Girl was hauled out from under the Greenland Ice-cap.

When I first saw that photograph I wondered where it was parked up, but having just been up to the ‘Bump’ I now realise it is just south of the control tower. I can only assume they’ve kept it out of the public eye this weekend to allow the crew some rest.

We have a bit of a parking space problem on the bump these day. So the grass south of the tower was a good long term spot. Also it enables a higher level of security to be provided which is becoming increasingly important to our ‘country cousins’.

Pete truman,
I agree ,the media is cr*p,They seem scared of aviation, I think because none of them know what they are talking about. I would gladly give my services to the Beeb for a fee to try and wake them up !!

I was surprised at the almost non-existant amount of coverage given to this event on the local news programmes last night.
Anglia News gave a short mention of the Vulcan being at Waddington, mainly due to it’s Marshalls connection. As for Liberty Belle, the delectable Wendy Hurrell managed a mention and a few bits of film during her weather forecast, as a co-presenter of Anglias ‘Bygones’ programme, she probably insisted on it.
As for BBC Look East, the whole bulletin was a disgrace, 50% of it was about Silverstone and the Grand bloody Prix, OK, I loath motor racing, but I admit it required some mention, but not to this extent, I presume it was because the BBC found the opportunity to mention an event that ITV exclusively cover.
The BBC normally do quite a reasonable coverage of events at DX, they never mentioned LB at all, shame on you, even non-aviation people that I know thought it was quite an event to bring this old a/c all the way across the Atlantic, I gather when it flew close to my missus’s work place yesterday they rushed to the windows to try and see it.
