Libya

With all the action and bombing that is going on particularly in respect to the taking out of Military Airfields one does hope that the Lady Be Good is in a safe place, this post here says

We’ve recently received photos and information from a traveler to Libya who has verified that the LBG has been moved from her long standing 1994-2009 location in the compound in Tobruk to the El Adem Military Airfield, 16 miles to the south. This move happened sometime before April 28th, 2009. We’ve updated the LBG Google Earth Map to reflect this new location. From the photos sent to us we’ve been able to determine her exact location at the airfield.

She survived one war, just let’s hope she gets through this one too, along with the population of the Country.

Thank you!

Another show of possible interest? Yelahanka in India 2005. These were taken in my pre-DSLR days and while travelling for work with just a compact film camera.. ๐Ÿ™

Yes Pagen01, a MIG-25R. All Foxbats are long retired in Libya and many are stored/dumped at Mitiga. Check out Google Earth and you’ll see how it is (or was!?). There are lot of stored machines around there, including L-39s and the Foxbats. The dump even has a Tu-22 Blinder! It is/was a very interesting place and was unusual in that you could walk the flight lines and even the taxyways without challenge, take photos and generally nose around. I guess it is sadly something of the past now! RR

Yes, an AN-32P. This was one of four at the show at Mitiga. I dread to think whch, if any, of these aircraft have suffered at the hands of the coalition forces recently. Despite what you see on the TV the Libyans are/were extremely friendly. From an enthusiasts point of view this was the first show I’ve been at in which you could get the local servicemen to run you around the ramp in a pick-up Toyota to see the various types. Nice! Of coursde, I was “working”! RR

With Libya being so much in the press, here is a taste of one of their shows, back in 2007:
