Hello – I shall be visiting Liege this year and have a couple of questions about the place.
I have read that there is a great bar on Rue St Gilles (it has about 1000 types of beer). Is this street reasonably easy to find from Liege Guillemins railway station?
Also, what is there to see in Liege?:)

Sounds like Anderlecht then!!!:)
Most hideous area I’ve stayed in, nice hotel but sh*tty area.

Don’t worry, there is NO architectural beauty in *THAT* part of the city 😀

Roadworks!!! Sounds just like the hotel I stayed in when I was in Dublin last week. Roadworks all along the front, couldn’t take a photo there because of them, and there were some really nice buildings nearby as well.

Yes it is. It is in the middle of that road. But Mind you, one end of the street is cut due to roadworks.

“La Vaudree” is the pub on Rue St Gilles which I was asking about. I just checked my book now (several months after the original question, I’d forgotten about this thread and found it on a search).

Thanks Frank, it was very helpful. I won’t be in Liege at night, it will be a day time visit by train from Mechelen. The pub I asked about is listed in “Great Beers of Belgium”, that’s how I heard of it.

Liège… Hehe, i’m living there 🙂
Well, Rue St Gilles isn’t hard to find.
From the railway station, take: rue des Guillemins (long street in front of the station, then first on the left (Rue d’Archis) Follow that street, it will become rue Louvrex, then, at the end of that street (after passing a park situated on your left), you will arrive in rue St Gilles. Turn right, because if you go left, the street will continue for nearly 2 km, and there is NOTHING to see in that direction.
Just one thing, don’t go in Rue St Gilles at night…. The place is not very safe.
For beers, you should try the “Vaudree”, I cannot tell you where it is situated an I never drink alcohol, nor go in pubs, but apparently it also has many beers.
And else, visit the center of the city. There is the “Carré”, in fact, a bunch of narrow streets inside the city, full of bars, pubs, restaurants, … the real heart of the ciry regarding nightlife. It is situated between Bouldvard d’Avroy (one of the biggest avenues), place Cathedrale, and place St LAmbert.
Hope it Helps.
