Life for life?

I just caught a bit on the radio. seems like the legal eagles want the FULL life sentances reduced to “Ordinary” life sentances, whereby the convicted person who is in prison for all his natural life, is allowed to be released on parole, and serve an “Ordinary” lifes term of imprisonment, which is considerably less.
What’s your take on this?.

Charliehunt.
Charlie, as I understand it there is/are about 40 full life term prisoners.who will die in prison, which brings up the old Chestnut, should they bring back hanging, rather than keeping them at the Taxpayers expense?.Being banged up all the time, just becomes a way of life for them.

There was a Tramp, who, just before Christmas, for several years, used to come to our Town and put a few bricks through shop windows, knowing he would be arrested for causing Criminal Damage, and be sent to prison, or held in remand for Christmas meals etc.

I believe the law does indeed allow for sentence without parole, although it is seldom applied. Was not Hindley such a case?

If you get sentenced for a full life sentence, then you should serve a full life sentence. Its not as if such a sentence is handed out lightly you must be a huge danger to the public to be considered for that.
The law to me need to be defined that a 10 year sentence is 10 years and a life sentence is life, parole for good behaviour to me does not work, sentence should be exactly what the judge lays down.

A sentence should clearly state you will serve X amount of time and during this time you will be expected with support to be able to be completely rehabilitated and paid your debt to society.
If sentence is a life sentence then you will be expected to serve the time stated and repay society by doing so. I still feel that many lifers could be used in medical drug tests etc for the good of all humans(I do not mean some freaky nazi style experiment), I know its controversial and people would probably be against the idea. But as I see it we use animals that bear little genetically to us why not let life prisoners give something back to the world instead?.

Yes it does. And with that question you have ensured that the legal profession need not fear for their jobs for another fifty years. 😀

A quick thought (without knowing anything about the subject!)

If a judge allows a prisoner to be released from a full life sentence to an ordinary life sentence, and that paroled prisoner murders someone, should the judge be charged with some form of manslaughter – knowing that the full-life criminal is serving full-life because he poses a very real threat to other people’s lives?

Did that make any sense at all?….

Ah, so they were barristers,. I wondered which branch of the profession they were from. It certainly needs reforming in some way, that’s for sure.

Those Barristers in the Royal Courts of Justice last week Charlie.
I think a lot of members must have missed it.

I have always thought that the law and the interpretation of it allowed by judges is confusing and inconsistent. I can’t comment on your post without more detailed informatioon. Who are the “legal eagles” you refer to?
