Local SE news last evening was reporting the “crash” of a “light aircraft” near Ashford in Kent yesterday afternoon (I believe). The two occupants were reportedly taken to hospital. An RAF SAR Seaking was shown at the scene after the accident.
The aircraft was reported to be en route from Southend to Shoreham (Sussex). Locals report hearing the engine running roughly or intermittently before the aircraft came down in a field. TV Footage of the scene showed (from a distance) a red and white fuselage, with a red emblem on the tail fin, sitting erect in a field – the angle of view and distance meant the wings/undercarriage were not visible.
My first reaction was that it looked remarkably like the two set “Extra”(?) used to tow the aerobatic Fox glider airshow routine?
I hesitate to post that last sentence (it being my own speculation) as I cannot confirm that to be the case, but given the fact that the aerobatic glider team are Shoreham based IIRC, and that the Southend airshow was on over the weekend, the facts may fit my assumption.
Anyone have any more news on same?
Mods – feel free to edit/delete if my speculation is deemed inappropriate.

C’est la vie. The duo had been to an air display at Old Sarum, but presumably were not connected at the time of the accident. Photo of G-IZII below.

Correct guess, aircraft was G-IIEX.:(
🙁 Bu99er! 🙁
One of those (rare)times when I had hoped to be proven wrong…:(
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the two people on board.
