Light Fleet Carriers rather than Tiger and/or Blake

What condition were the various LFC’s still in RN hands at the time of the Tiger and Blake conversions.

According to Brown, a 1963 study decided the form of the conversion with Blake in dockyard hands 1965 – 1969 and Tiger 1968 – 1972.

Colossus class:
Triumph (converted to heavy maintenance ship to support Frigates in Far Easts 1958-1965).

Majestic class:
Magnificent (returned from RCN 1957, sold for scrap 1965).
Leviathan (never completed; being used for parts for Melbourne & Sydney [RAN], Bonaventure [RCN], & Hercules/Vikrant [IN]; scrapped 1968 [after boilers & turbines removed for Karel Doorman/25 de Mayo]).

That’s all that were left in 1963 (Glory was sold in 1961, Ocean & Thesus in 1962).

The problem with the light fleet carriers, with the exception of the Hermes, Centaur, Bulwark and Albion was that they were unable to maintain fleet speed, making them less than useful as fleet carriers. The three cruisers were armoured, still capable of engaging Sverdlovs and could be made into comprehensive multi role ships rather than just ASW carriers. They were also capable of carrying a significant number of troops, made great command ships and their guns were very useful for shore bombardment.
