Mark12ās excellent photo of the BBMF Spit taken at Coltishall in 1970, with all those lovely noisy silver interceptors š in the background has prompted me to ask has anyone every seen or got any photos of the mass Lightning formation escorting Concorde 002, which made up the Queens Birthday Flypast on one occasion….???
Iām pretty sure it was 1970, but may have been 1969 or 1971.
I can still vividly recall the sight and sound as they skirted to the east of RAF Northolt and flew right over our house at about 500ft……. š š

Have you tried consulting or contacting www.concordesst.com with this question? They have an active and knowledgeable forum group too!

Did you dream this?
Well, after 30 years of searching I was begining to wonder š
But, my Mum remembers it vividly as well, as we were standing out in the road at 1.00pm waiting for the flypast to come over. We were with the next door neighbours, (he was a wartime Spitfire pilot and had retained that interest in aircraft since) and we heard the noise before they appeared in view, and us kids shouted …… Lightnings!! ….. followed by the adults shouting…..WOW…that’s the Concorde as well….
It was the first time any of us had seen a Concorde flying.
In one of the Lightning books, there is an aerial photo of a 16 ship F3 formation sitting on the end of Wattisham’s runway, and the caption says it was the take off of the Wattisham Wing for the Queens birthday flypast in 1970, so that fits in, but I’m amazed there seems no air to air shots or air to ground shots.
Alas the ex-Spitfire pilot neighbour attempted to catch it on 16mm cine at the time but unsuccesfully, and he’s long gone now anyway š
