Thanks Graham,
I see no reason for this thread to continue – the other thread on this aircraft is still open if anyone wishes to post further info.

We allowed this purely on the basis that it was for a good cause; no profits being made and so on. I hope all can see that.

Quite right Bruce, do we really needs rules to cover every event? I hope not there are to many rules in this day and age already. Nearly everyone on here can see its a good cause does anything else need to be said?

Are you surprised? Look at all the advertising it was permitted on this forum!
………don’t worry, it’ll all be in the book;)

This was when I was a member of Rayleigh ATC 1476 Squadron.
I am sitting in the cockpit, and the officer is “Monty” Mountstephens.
This was shortly after we had received the cockpit. I believe it had been
rescued from Foulness and put on a wheeled trolley by RAF apprentices.
Some years after I’d left the ATC, I saw it on display at the long since defunct
Southend aviation museum. The last time I saw it was at Southend airport,
where it was on display during the seafront airshow. That must have been
about five or six years ago
Unfortunately it doesn’t show much of the actual cockpit. This must have been
circa 1968-9 (at a guess). I’m sure it also had a canopy, perhaps removed for the photo ?

No,not really ,this is a group involved in aviation and receipts can be shown if necessary.
The only problem may come if the group disbands and the van is sold on but even that would be traceable.
I find it sad that they have had to resort to this .
thanks for the info trumper,
with regards to the “group” dispanding, unless they take a dramatic drop in numbers, they will stay around, to achieve squadron status, they have to parade 30+ cadets, if they are requiring a bus, my guess is they have that, if they parade less than 30 consecutively for a number of years, their status may be dropped to “detached Flight” where they will be assigned to another unit close by
i honestly cant see them closing any time soon

Yes, I can see that. But for the avoidance of doubt, may we take this as a statement of the current status of the forum rules concerning advertising, namely that advertising on this forum is now permitted if the matter being advertised:
– is in aid of a good cause; and
– does not result in a profit being made?If so, does the first criterion fall to be determined by the moderator(s) and how can the moderator(s) know, with any certainty, whether the second criterion is or will be satisfied?
No, it has been a one-off event. Nothing has changed.
Whilst we can never know if a profit has been made, it seemed fairly clear in this instance that it was for a charitable cause.
For the avoidance of doubt, if you arent sure, contact a moderator, or the Webmaster.
There are other forums that do permit advertising.

I’ve only just read this thread. What a great shame that that my old ATC Squadron had to sell the cockpit. I’ll dig out and scan a picture of me sitting in it, when we first had it at our HQ.

all i can say is well done, as a member of the ATC(joined in 2001) i know how hard it is raising funds, to get a minibus we have to raise the funds for it ourselves, or apply for grants, they dont always go according to plan and sometimes this is the only way, well done from a fellow ATC member
which squadron was it by the way?

Hardly, this was a good charitable cause. What you describe is hardly the same. As trumper says – ‘May common sense be used’.

You don’t need to be a registered member of this forum or eBay to browse either at will.
.
Agreed BUT you would have to be looking specifically for something like this to see it,how many threads are there on these forums? ,i hope common sense can prevail where a good cause is recognised over a pure business deal, hard to moderate i know but this is prove able.
May common sense be used.

I for one didn’t know, not very often I peruse this forum nowadays….I remember how hard it was for my old ATC Squadron to raise funds for a minibus, they managed it about 5 years after I left…good luck to them 🙂

Over priced?
I would have to take the view based on something my missus once said …..
In Indonesia, there is no such thing as a rip off. If you are prepared to pay the price, then you got it at what you wanted to pay.
In this case, both parties got what they wanted. One gets money for a bus, one gets a Lightning cockpit at a price that was good for them. No real rip off there, that was the price in the day. Had it gone for a competitive auction who knows? Might have been even more expensive…
By: avion ancien - 7th July 2011 at 15:28
Good luck to them, they need as much as possible to keep their cadets mobile.
From the point of view of the ATC squadron, I agree entirely. They are a good cause and they do a good job. And if selling their assets is the only way that they can provide themselves with transport and the assets being sold (such as the propellor) serve no current purpose to their rôle, then that has to be the sensible course of action to take. But that was not my point. My point concerned the way in which the rules of this forum, at least concerning advertising, seem not to be applied uniformly. Maybe the perception of the enforcers is that if it’s in a good cause, advertising should be permitted. But in that case, why not amend the rules to reflect that? Unless and until that’s done, surely the fair thing is to say that the rules apply to all, whoever they are and whatever may be the purpose for that which is being advertised, and will be applied to all. Otherwise, in the meantime, legitimate criticism can be expected from those who have had their wrists slapped – and those whose wrists are slapped in the future – for advertising, whatever form that might take, on this forum.
