Turmoil and in fighting at a museum, whatever next? my eye brows are raised in the classic Roger Moore style, and as my mouth drops open, my tongue un rolls to reveal the word “surprised”.

Lightning XS420 at Fast

Hello all and a Happy New Year,

Thanks Bruce for your heads up ….my T5, XS420 will be at FAST Museum for the forseeable future!

There seems to be some inconsistency/turmoil amost the heirarchy between the museum/trust and its supporting business company.

Im well clear of any politics and offer my fullest support to ANY museum/organisation that wants to keep aviation matters alive ….. as indeed im sure ALL who follow this sort of forum do! …….bit obvious really i know but, sometimes we ALL have to just STOP from our busy lives and smell the coffee …isnt it good!

Cheers all, Fly Safe ….. N

Before you move anything from FAST, talk to the people at the museum (not the person who served the notice). There have been some internal problems which has led to these notices to quit.

As I understand it, it only applies to one individual.

Lakes Lightnings …the cunning plan …

Greetings All,

Just to give you some heads up on my ‘cunning plan’ regarding ‘Lakes Lightnings’.

The Lightnings currently up in the Lakes are F1a XM172 and F6 ‘short’ nose
XS922….(and ‘Heathers’ Harrier’ T4 nose).

F1 nose XM144 will be relocated from Leeds to the Lakes in January 07.

F6 nose XS932 at FAST will be relocated from Farnboro’ to the Lakes in Feb/March 07.

T5 XS420 at FAST will remain there for now but may/will be moved Spring as ive had notice to move served by FAST Ltd. along with all the other ‘residents’…Yes she will also fit into my garden but i dont think im going to do that …. but im not sure so, ‘wait out’! I havnt decided yet …

My intention is to open up viewing in my garden, as and when, by prior appointment/event …. it is NOT a public place…. for those who know me, im more of a caretaker than an ‘owner’, keeping them for the future. Heather and i are intending to share them with like minded/interested parties … we will probably set up a ‘Lakes Lightnings’ association or something …. havnt thought it out yet.

At the end of the day, yes we will have 5 Lightnings! Enough comes to mind!

But i am looking for a Tbird nose/cockpit ! ! ! and a Firestreak and a RedTop….any one out there got any steers??

Enough ramblings from me so, Happy New Year all … Fly Safe…

Anyone would almost imagine that there is a plot to relocate all the nation’s Lightnings to the Lake District !

Hello all,

You may be wondering why Lightning nose XM144 has vanished from ebay with days to go til the finish date ……

Er no, not really.

The forum has been in turmoil with other more devious eBay activities, but as a former owner of XM144, i wish you well with its restoration Neil. If/when i happen across some old ‘in service’ photo’s i have, i’ll let you know.

Cheers…..

Lightning F1 XM144 cockpit

Hello all,

You may be wondering why Lightning nose XM144 has vanished from ebay with days to go til the finish date …. well, i have to say that Chris and i have come to a deal and ive bought her from him !

XM144 will be moving within a month from Leeds to the Lake District to become one of the ‘Lakes Lightnings’.

Her restoration process will be on hold for some while as she takes a back seat to XM172. It was looking as though no one else in the UK was interested and i just couldnt let this F1 leave the country!

Besides it has somewhat loose connection with XM172 as indicated in Damien’s website ‘Thunder and Lightnings’ …the two were destined to be together!

So thats it really … watch for the pictures and my Lakes Lightnings website launch …. when i have a day or so off!

Meanwhile, Fly Safe……

So, my complete Vampire for £2750, or a bit of a Lightning for £3500. Both similar condition, i.e. need work.

Which is the best deal?

🙂

Bruce

Sorry Bruce but Lightning first time, every time:D .

Zf582 nose section with EE certificate and full form 700, mint and totally complete down to the stop watch, and complete with a modified 28Volt bus, to power it all up, fetched 5.5K 2 years ago.

Nice to hear they have found a stopwatch for as when I sat in her last year they had a mock up one fitted, and the lighting was excellent she was sat in a dark corner of the hanger so you really did feel that ‘live’ Lightning feeling:D .

Well given the choice Id have your Vampire Bruce, and the other thing with the stripped out Frightning is the extra cost of sourcing the missing items too. Ok you might have missing items too but at least you have the whole airframe. Bex

Hi John. Just to inform you. The new owner is the cockpits 2nd owner from when it was last on ebay. The photos of the section used in the last listing were in fact old and not an acurate representation of how it looked. The previous owner failed to mention he had stripped the paint from the right side. Again this was not mentioned in its last listing on ebay! The cockpit interior is as it was for the last auction. The host of instruments and parts never materialised after the last ebay listing! The owner never had a F700 so by advertising it as having full history was incorrect!! The seat which came with the last auction was from a jet provost not a lightning and had spent the last twenty years outside. This was so corroded it was scraped! The section is now far more complete than when it was last on ebay as the current owner has sourced many of the access panels which were missing. The present listing is very accurate.
I think its on at a very low price. Its the only surviving cockpit section of a Lightning F1 in the world! That alone has got to make it worth way more than £5K!

So £750 for it 10years ago was a bargain then ?
