Lightning Photo !

I hope this is the correct place to ask this question ! my first ever post ! I have read with great pleasure a lot of what you very knowledgable people discuss ! would love to get involved.
My request is …. I am looking for a good photo of a lightning taking off at dusk with both afterburners “on fire”, this would have to be large enough to use as a wallpaper on one of these computer things ! I eagerly await your views (sic) keithnewsome.

Albert Ross,

Nice touch:D , shame about the containers in the background though, I dug this one up which has the least background clutter (just a couple of errant blue barrels) which might be a bit more usefull……

This is the closest I have to a pairs run but as sure as Lightning’s will be Lightning’s the gremlins crept in, 728 only has one burner lit and 904 had problems starting which meant a single engine run in cold thrust only…….

http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/1396/pairsrun6wp1.jpg

This one I have is not a taxiing one but it best demonstrates the raw power, I can even hear the thunder just looking at the pick, 904 earlier on this year with chocks in and No.1 on full re-heat, nose squat and transonic vapour in the intake…….simply awesome:D 😀 ……

There are a damn sight better pics out there than my feeble attempts, Ihope you find what you are looking for.

Regards,

John.

Hi, welcome to the forum, just seen your post, and Im affraid I dont have a burner shot at dusk.
Im sure someone out there will prove me wrong.
We the LPG are gathering at Brunty tomorrow (please let the sun shine) for our 19 anniversary BBQ and will also give 904 a little ‘squirt’ with John Spencer in the ‘hot’ seat, so I will ask around the lads and see if anyone of them has the type of Lightning shot you are after.

All I have that are close are these, all taken at Bruntingthorpe over the years.
I have none from the Binbrook era that come close, (out of hundreds of em) sorry

The first three were taken at recent open days, not unlike John Fmk6’s shot above.

This shot was taken on the occasion of our first static reheat run back in 1989 after we had put the Jet pipe back in, this run was needed to check the reheat fuel seal connection (me on the tail)

This is the only one I have that comes close, taken in 1990 on a very foggy day.

Sorry I cant help anymore, if you do come across a good photo of the type your looking for let me know 😀

Cheers

I don’t have any shots of Lightings I am afraid,but Ian Black’s book Lightning (isbn 1-85310-044-7) has a couple of take-offs with after-burners lit (1 of XR724-AE & 1 of Doncasters own F.6 XS897-AC)

I am not sure how you could contact the author/copyright owner but if you can get a copy there is some cracking shots.:) 🙂

Youre Welcome

Keith,

Youre welcome 😀 I would have thought if anyone can provide you with a specific photo, then our 320psi (Andy) might be able to help. Hes one of the LPG gang up at Brunty. But as you can see from my Lightning thread, it wont take long for someone to help, I asked for 74 Sqn silver & black, and thats what I got and you can see the end result here: www.bexwh773.fotopic.net and then look for “Bex & Heidi’s Technicolour Airforce” LoL Bex

Lightning photo

Wow ! Thanks guys ! Am impressed with the rapid responce, will submit your
ideas. This is a challange from an elderly work mate, to supply him with a particular photo (and he’s fussy). The wealth of knowledge out there astounds me ! Would love it if I were able to help someone out from my old but fading memory of aviation ! A part of me feels at home here ! keith.
