Lightning Squadrons

Hi,

I’m looking for a bit of information on Binbrook lightning squadrons 5, 11 & the LTF.

I would mainly like to know, if possible, how many aircraft where they to each squadron and where they would have parked on Binbrooks Apron.

Cheers

Stevo76;)

Stevo

Heres a few I found digging through some piccies, not real close ups, but you get the general detail for the legs and forward bay. I cant find any of the wheel bay itself at the moment.

Hi 320psi,

Strange, I was going to email you about this when I got around to it, 😉 It only came to me today that you would have known this stuff.

So thanks for the info, if you have anything else that might be useful for me then I’d apprecite it.

I did reply to you about the QRA plans didnt I? I’m sure I did. But yes they where great. I’ve got the QRA for Binbrook built using those very plans, 😀

None of your preserved lightnings are T.5 are they. I’m looking for a good 3-view drawing (front, side, back, top views) of one, so I can build a 3d model. I’ve found lots of drawings for F.3’s and F’6’s but no T.5, and I dont suppose you have any good closeup pictures of the undercarriage from your two I could use to see the detail?

Later

Stevo76;)

No worries, glad the plans were of use to you:)

No neither of our two are T5’s unfortuntaley, we could charge for rides if we had, oh well

T5 plans views, I havent any but I can ask around the lads in the group

As for photos of the gear, again Ive taken any close up’s at all, but if you dont mind waiting a few weeks, I will get lots for you next time Im over, Im having a break for the next few weeks as its been abit hectic of late with the open day looming and Im just easing the martial pressure 😀

We intend to be there on the 16th June to run 728, so I will get the shots for you then if thats OK ?

Cheers

Hi, durning the late seventies and eigthies there was normally 1 T5, 3 Mk3’s and 11 MK6’s spread arcoss the 3 squardons

Letters were A-L 6’s, PRS 3’s and the T5 was T.

There were normally about 6-8 a day on the line and there was always 1 or 2 on check 2’s and the rest were U/S

Hope this helps

PS were the QRA hanger plans I sent any good for you ?

Hi

Thanks for all the info

Steve, have you got a specific platform in mind ie FS2004 etc?

I’ll be making versions for both FS2004 and FSX

It would probably be best to pick a year that you are going to put Binbrook in and then do your research from there, some AC were shuffled between squadrons and so served on both 5 and 11.

I’m thinking between 1985 – 88. A lot of pics I’ve gathered seem to have been taken around that time.

Also it would be a nice touch if you put out airfield decoys too

Great idea, if you know where they where placed on the airfield please let me know. 😉

I have an aircraft participation list for the 1987 Last Last Lightning Show which gives serials and squadrons, also it has a list of airfield decoys on it too. If you want I could try and scan it in and post it.

That will be great.

Stevo 😉

Hi

Cheers fella’s

If anyone here uses Flight Simulator, I’m building a free version of Binbrook with (hopefully) all the squadrons on the apron as AI aircraft.

Will look forward to more info 😉

Numbers did vary from day to day depending on serviceability, I seem to recall 12 to 14 being about right, the LTF often had 5 T-Birds, 3 or 4 F.3s and an F.6 too.

I will have a look back through my files for an a better idea if you want?

Can’t remember numbers too well, but if you stand with your back to the hangar line looking toward the airfield, 5 would be on the right, LTF in the middle, and 11 on the left, typically facing outwards.

Think each sqn had about 12 or 13 and LTF 5 or 6 but ready to be corrected.
