The Lightning definatly didnt go to the falklands and as far as i am aware they have never been deployed to malta ether.

Here’s another of XS897 a little earlier during the rebuild

XS897 has been rebuilt with wings and a tial from a F.53 as the originals were cut and the damage you can see on the fuselarge above the wings was done by a JCB as they were smashing up the aircraft and a museum member stoped them and asked to save the aircraft. It was swaped for a tractor.

With all these pics of lightnings I was wondering, were there any ever deployed to the Falklands or Malta? I remember seeing one many years ago with a red cross on a white circle.

Also I asked a question sometime ago on AFM but it was at the end of a thread and I think people missed it. Apart from the Jaguar, Lightning and Sea Vixen, were there any other a/c that had hard points above the wings?

It might seem like a dumb question, but can jet pipes be re-manufactured/reconditioned.

How expensive would it be to do this?

Scott, no piccies from my days on 29 Sqn at Wtm, that was taboo in those days, I know some guys that used to hide up cameras in tool bags/boxes etc.

XP706 rings a bell was that ex WTM, all ours were F3’s with one T-bird where I refused a trip due to hearing probs, yeah I know what a prat! All of our kites were named after the Magic Roundabout characters B + Bravo was Brian….. F= Foxtrot was Florence……..Z Tbird =Zulu was Zebedee. The crew room had all the characters on the TBar panels, I know as I painted them all.

I have a couple of pics of one exhibit at the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum at Bungay, however the paint job from last year looked errrrr yuck!

I havnt tried going down the intake yet, i am quite thin though. nice of english electric to leave room to get to the engine to do an intake check (not!!!)
