Evening all,
Good news for me…… maybe not for the other half though!
After quite a search, I will be acquiring the original tail fin from the famous Lightning F3 XR749 in the near future and I plan to try and restore it to its former glory. Unfortunately, after searching the net, there doesn’t seem to be many pictures showing the tail in detail.
Does anyone have any pictures of the aircraft, in particular the tail, of XR749 in her Lightning Training Flight colours?
Fingers crossed once it’s all painted and looking good I’ll mount it in my garden and maybe take it to a few shows or open days. Also, if you have any good shots of not just XR749, but any other Lightning and you wouldn’t mind me using them as part of a display, please get in touch.
Over to you folks, thanks in advance! 🙂

The photo is not dated and I know that I have other photos taken then, if you can provide the date MAYBE I can find the pictures for you.

and http://www.aviation-picture-hangar.co.uk/xr749qm.html shows her in slightly plainer colours in the days when XR749 was ‘Q’ of 5 Squadron
But you specifically wanted this http://www.aviation-picture-hangar.co.uk/xr749.html

Her tail was cut for the road move from Scotland circa 1990’s -a replacement was fitted as part of her rebuild.

Well done on that aquisition Martin, hope you can recreate that LTF insignia, my favourite to be worn on Lightnings. The code letters look bigger in Andys in service shots.
