Lightning XS936

While we seem to be on a roll with Lightning posts, I spotted this in the Castle Air Services car park in Cornwall last week. Much to the disgust of Mrs Stirling, and the Stirlingettes, I stopped for a photo.

Basically they hire out choppers which is going to be popular for higher end aerial TV work.
Their own A109s feature predominantly in Robbie williams’ Angels video, and the well watched BBC intros with the lighthouse.

Has anyone here got recent pictures of the two Lightnings in gardens in the east Cornwall area?

Castle Air provide Lundy Island’s helicopter service when the island’s ship does not or cannot sail. Had a fantastic flight back from Lundy one year sat next to the pilot, amazing views of the island and of the North Devon coast I know so well too. I am pretty sure that Castle Air are also used quite a bit for the TV series ‘Coast’.

*Edited to add* Castle Air’s website: http://www.castleair.co.uk/

Plus, ok it’s wikipedia, but a bit more info here as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Air

Also provided the JetRangers for Anneka Rice and ITV’s “Treasure Hunt” series”.

It’s the best use of an aircraft as advertising hoarding I have seen for a long while.

Castle Motors, also have an organisation Castle Air, presumably a device for the owner to offset his flying costs against the business. They operate eggbeater(s) from a hangar behind the car showroom and I’d guess have some maintenance abilities on hand.

The site is set below the main road and would be easy to miss, but the top of the Lightning can be seen quite clearly, attracting the attention of many who pass by, me included.

Well done Castle Air!

A healthy coat of fresh paint does wonders for any outdoor aircraft. She looks terrific!

And as lively discussion about Lightnings continues on this Forum ( and long may it do so ! 😎 ) I thought this update may be of interest…..

I took the advantage of a holiday in Cornwall last week to go and find the Castle Air / Motors Lightning XS936 which – as can be seen – has had a tidy-up and repaint. I shan’t pass any comment on the colour scheme (!).

Anyhow, it does make a very imposing ‘billboard’ – and a word of advice to anyone who wants to go almong and have a look, it’s actually a few miles from Liskeard toward Plymouth on the A38 ( which may save you some time driving round Liskeard like I did ! 😮 )….
