Can any knowledgeable member please direct me to a digital camera that doesn’t require me to pick up and digest the book of instructions everytime I try to use it ?
I’m looking for simplicity. I’m looking for no knobs, levers, bells and whistles. I’m looking for ‘point it and press the button’. I’m looking for a basic, fundamental, no frills steam driven digital camera with no flashing lights, warning sirens and one that doesn’t chew batteries.
Is there such a friendly camera available to one who still values Fred Flintsone as representative of a more uncluttered age.

All information gratefully received.
As I type, I’m receiving baleful glares from a Pentax Optio 30 which purpose is, nominally at least, that of a camera but, which I think is possessed. Possessed as in the Exorcist. It doesn’t like me. It’s a tiny thing which doubles in size in my pocket because of the need to take the instruction book every where I go.
I know for a fact – I’m not in the least paranoid, that Pentax have equipped it with a brain designed to stretch and test the analytical abilities of perhaps not every user but, me in particular.
As soon as I can find a machine that removes the ‘pain from the frame’ it is booked in for re-cycling.

I have what is known as a ‘bridge’ camera.
I used to use it for images for clients in the lower-level jobs that didn’t warrant a professional photographer at £1,000 / day plus
But it still isn’t pocketable and so was never handy when it was really needed.
To supplement it I looked at pocket cameras – following the dictate “It must be a camera manufacturer – Canon – Nikon – Pentax etc”
Then a friend who ius a well renowned aerial photographer said “Look at Panasonic”
I did, and now have a TZ30. It has an “Intelligent Auto” setting and I rarely move away from that.
Now, when a client pays me for images I take the bridge camera as it looks like a camera. Then when he isn’t looking I use the TZ30 (set to intelligent Auto” as well)
A well known aviation magazine has paid me for TZ30 images

I have used these people http://www.parkcameras.com/article/521/Park-Cameras-London-Store—Update.html
John Lewis are abit more expensive BUT they sometimes add an extended warranty
All cameras advertise a million features, they need to do this to sell to people BUT 90% of the stuff you don’t need.
The basics are –
1,Good OPTICAL zoom NOT digital zoom.
2,Good lens versatility wide angle to semi telephoto
3,Battery life,
4,Type of card in camera.
5,Shutter speeds,
6,Aperture
7, Do you want video ??
Make sure you can use the camera comfortably, small is handy but not if you can’t use fiddly buttons.
Get digging ,hope it helps 🙂
