My Argentinean isn’t that good (more like non-existent), but it appears there’s a group set-up to try and take care of one of the Avro Lincolns out there, B-010 at Buenos Aires.

Should be interesting to keep an eye on!

Looks like the Viking (or is it a Valetta) could benefit from a little TLC as well. Lets hope it is in the queue with the Lincoln.

Argentinian info..
“Operativio Oscar” – 1953, 6 Lincolns converted to carry locally designed bouncing bombs. They tested the bomb dropping flight plan but never used in anger as the pylon and weapon were not built. Two Lincolns converted locally into a “Lincolnian” and used before write off in 1961 and 1967.
“Operacion Soberania” to use Lancasters to drop missiles designed by German engineers living in Argentina, developed from the Henschel HS 293 air to surface missle.
Last Lancaster withdrawn in December 1965.
I was going to scan and post some of this, its from the “International Air Power Review” Volume 24 – scans may be a copy right problem but if you have an interest in the aircraft I can recommend that you try and source a copy to read the story in full detail.

.
I would be surprised but delighted if it was restored to fly, with a second one on gate guard duty also in the same country, Argentina is the only place such an outcome could ever occur with any confidence.
By bringing the second one in from the cold to the National Museum to allow for a spares ship and one restored as a static exhibit, the better of the two could therefore possibly restored to full airworthy condition?
It would then perhaps be quite a National flag waver for Argentina within South America with possible airshow/PR visits into the USA?
We are all allowed to dream smiles

This Argentine project looks to be very well founded with highly skilled people involved. I don’t know yet the level of restoration intended. But I would not be surprised if the aim is to fly the aircraft. I am particularly impressed with the 3d technical drawings that have been produced and I hope I can obtain some copies from them to show here. A project well worthy of support.
Blue_2: “Theakston’s, Black Sheep, Sam Smith’s” Oh such golden words. Next you’ll mention Almscliffe Crag of many happy memories and one really bad one.

Lincoln engines
…and what engines did the Lincoln have Ben?
I worked on the Lincoln with 617 Squadron at RAF Binbrook, I was electrician but I think the engines were Rolls Royce 60 series, probably 66.

I’ve lived here in Argentina, an exile from Yorkshire, Tetleys and Baked Beans, for some 17 years now.
I wouldn’t miss the Tetleys, particularly. Now if you were to say Theakston’s, Black Sheep, Sam Smith’s, etc. it’d be a different matter 😉

Well you must really enjoy seeing dead airplanes then?
😮
Arrrrgh!!!!! Peter, please don’t define statics as dead, they are mearly asleep – an aeroplane is only dead when it no longer exhists.
While statics may no longer have engine runs or fully working systems, the main appeal is, study them well & like a work of art, in your minds eye its you that draws the life from them.:)

Argie Lincoln Restoration
Is Yorkshire a different language? Well, the Spanish they speak in Argentina is different in about the same way. I’ve just made contact with the Argentine Avro Lincoln restoration group near Buenos Aires and offered any help I can. I’ve lived here in Argentina, an exile from Yorkshire, Tetleys and Baked Beans, for some 17 years now. I know quite a bit about the Lanc, but not the Lincoln. Perhaps the best I can offer them is to act as a sort of go-between, if they need it. But, please, give me some ideas how I can help them.
