Lindholme dig 1967

Does anyone have info on the lindholme dig in 1967? Substantial parts of a Lancaster and Wellington were recovered, the book I am reading states 4 tons in total. The remains went to RAF Henlow where they were scrapped, after the RAFM had taken what they needed for the then to be built museum.

What items have the RAFM kept?

re

Things like digging wrecks are better left to the professionals. I remember our excitement, when we were at school. Having been exploring whats left of the Spilsby af, we found a huge piece of metal half in the ground. When we got the dirt off the badge it turned out to say “morris minor”!

According to the book I am reading the tail of the wellington was stuck up in the air for years.

I visited both sites last year, There are still parts of both aircraft scattered on the ground, some geodetics from the Wellington and other assorted pieces including some shards of wood, please remember though if you visit this site there were fatalitles so please show respect and leave it as you found it. As for the Lanc, The crew all escaped by parachute, The Lanc went in inverted and there are still scattered remains there, including pieces of melted aluminium, assorted bits and pieces that are not really recognisable and some undercariage parts that are quite large and the remains of small bundles of ‘window’, I have been given a small access panel from the wing from this aircraft that was recovered a little while back and it is at present next to my computer desk. I intend to make a model of this Lanc and display it with the part.
Oh, and this is in no way intended to put people off visiting the Lanc site but watch out for the resident Adder, He’s quite defensive of his patch and lets you know, Lucky for me I’m used to being around snakes.

Ive been to lanc site at the Back of lindholme about 10years ago, still remains quite alot on surface so there is sure to be more under the surface, I know 1 merlin was taken and a undercarriage leg but thats nothing ot do with the 1967 dig, The merlin was taken by the SAS I think for a exercise and I know the person who took the undercarriage leg
