Lindsay Walton

I too remember watching Lindsay Walton in his Corsair and Me(Nord)108 at various airshows, particularly West Malling, North Weald and Duxford Blue Skies sir and thank you for the pleasure you bought to the airshow scene.

In the recent article in the Vintage Aviation Echo, John Romain disclosed that it was through the generosity of Lindsay Walton that he was able to move into the world of warbird flying, going straight from the Harvard onto the mighty Corsair, short-cutting the more usual Spitfire, Mustang stepping stones.

As a youngster, Lindsay’’s Corsair was the first that I saw at a GWAD in the late ‘80s. I couldn’t believe the size of it and how high the cockpit was, sort of like sitting on a chariot. It really bought ‘Carrier Pilot’ by Norman Hanson to life. All because of Lindsay’’s generosity in sharing his machines with us. Thanks for the memories.

Sad to hear it. Did he not refer to himself as The Flying Farmer? Lindsay in the Corsair, Spencer Flack and Stephen Grey’s P-51D and Bearcat plus some bloke called Hanna really fired this enthusiat’s obsession with warbirds… I loved that Corsair….

Very sad news indeed! Just to echo everyone else’s sentiments, I too have fond memories of Lindsay and his collection on the circuit in the 80s. His -7 Corsair was, and still is my favourite Corsair. It looked stunning in the Aeronavale colours. Of course, we also would have been lost for a bad guy at most shows if it wasn’t for his Nord, along with the couple of Pilatus P.2s we had. That was the extent of the “Luftwaffe” back then. Blue skies Lindsay!

That is really sad new; he was a pioneer of the European warbird movement. I still have a FlyPast issue from the early Eighties with an interview with him, written by James Kightly, I believe. I also have vivid memories of his Corsair and Nord 1002 from the 1986 Fighter Meet at North Weald.

Always thought his Corsair was the best looking 1 we ever had.

Very sad to hear this news, I’ll always remember him for his “bad guy” displays in the ‘108.
