Link Trainer – Is it worth the trouble

Hi All, I have been offered a Link Trainer ANT-18 but without the plotting table. I am told it was working when it was last on display and I am wondering how much it should be worth and whether I should buy it. It has OTU 57 marked on it but not sure when this marking was applied. The fabric has been replaced with plywood many years ago and it seems to be in good condition and has all the gauges in place but only has a plywood seat. The guy is asking £1500. Does this sound right? Thanks for any suggestions

I’d say they were about right to be honest!

Thanks for the info. It is quite a big piece and although I have plenty of room in my sheds it will obviously take up quite a bit of space. The crab is not with it as far as I know. I was planning to use it but only as a novelty in my small collection so still in 2 minds what to do. He has a fair amount of stuff so would I be better off putting the money towards a P&W R985 (£2500) or Anson propeller (£750) or Avro Lincoln nose gun turret with both .50 still attached (£3500)? Do these prices seem high or about right?

Really not sure of value but having been involved in one I can say although quite common they are quite impressive little things when you consider the era they were designed and created. The public are always very interested and a lot of families of aircrews who read in their loved ones log books “link” trainer they are always very interested in actually seeing one, we have a few surplus parts that might help.

If you want to use it then I’d be very cautious as they are very complicated machines that are very temperamental. For £1500 you are probably better off buying a PC flight sim. If you do go ahead with it then if you PM me I might be able to help out with some spares.

If it`s got the `crab`,you can make your own table…the plywood seat is to keep one alert, not for dozing…or,if you have a spare billiards/snooker table, all sorts of games come to mind……!
