I’ve lived in Dent near Sedbergh for the past 10 years, previously living on the outskirts of Leeds. We used to get Tucanos from Linton flying over here all the time, as well as Hawks and Tornados. Sadly, now it seems the RAF have gone into hibernation. With the Texan being based at Valley there is no need for these new aircraft to fly north to the Lakes and North Yorkshire when they have the Welsh mountains on their doorstep.
Which set me thinking about Linton on Ouse which is a lovely war time station which I have visited in the past. What a lovely location it would be for a northern RAF museum with active flying. So much war time flying occured in Yorkshire and it could become a facility that people from “up” North would thoroughly enjoy. There’s such a surfeit of official museums in the Midlands and down South but the North, as usual, has been somewhat forgotten. A lovely way to keep a wartime base alive.

Certainly a nice idea, a sort of Duxford style operation would be great. I would say, though, that Elvington might be a better contender for such an operation, already having a museum and a huge runway.
I doubt the RAF museum would allocate resources ( if they have them?) to another facility, the problem is we live in very impecunious times ! I like the idea though. If I had my way, EVERY airfield would be restored to prime condition from its heyday !
