Heck, with the debts Mr Glazer has saddled them with United need all the money they can get these days. 😮
I was thinking the same, Still if they go broke that would mean they would need pull out of all competition and that would leave 4 teams again, So maybe Mr Glazer is a Liverpool fan? 😀 .
I am glad Liverpool have been allowed to defend it was because they need go through the Qualification games too its not like they were promised a easy ride. It will be ironic if they get knocked out in the early stages though.

Just to put the icing on the cake, it seems that Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U and Everton will now suffer financially
I will weep copious tears for the first three poverty-stricken organisations. How will they cope?

Did anyone hear Derek Hatton, the dodgy left wing politico who nearly ran Liverpool (The City, not the team) into the ground a few years back, on Radio 4 last night?
He’s an Everton supporter, he didn’t seem to be happy 😀

He was on Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine show on the day after Liverpool had won.It was all he could do to talk about it!

“I think Liverpool should reimburse the other 4 clubs, quite frankly.”
Apparently, each of the clubs will lose around 2 million pounds in tv rights to Liverpool, a club which failed to qualify fairly. It makes a mockery of doing well in the Premiership when clubs suffer because no one ever thought Liverpool could win the Champions League. If they had done better in the Premiership none of this would have been an issue. Benitez has made statements to that effect.
Whilst I agree that provision should have been made from the outset that the winners of the Champions League should automatically qualify for the next season, those weren’t the rules in place at the beginning of the season. And Liverpool were fully aware of that but did not play well enough to finish fourth. It’s qualification by the back door at other people’s expense and shouldn’t be allowed.
Patriotic head on one would hope they would do well, but in my heart I don’t believe they are deserving of their place in this set of circumstances.
Regards,

Just to put the icing on the cake, it seems that Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U and Everton will now suffer financially as a result of Liverpool’s special treatment because the English share of the TV revenue will be divided 5 ways instead of 4.

So who has got Liverpools UEFA Cup place?
Nobody
By: Humberside - 10th June 2005 at 22:50
Man City have not lost a UEFA cup spot, they just hoped that with Liverpool been allowed in the Champions League and not taking up the UEFA spot, that the qualification would have been moved down a place in the league, hasnt happened unfortunately!

UEFA have now changed the rules so that winners of the Champions League qualify automatically, should have happened after the Real Madrid saga a few years ago!

Come on Liverpool.

Hmmm…. one set of rules for Liverpool, another set of rules for everyone else, it would seem.
Who will miss out to make way for them? Someone will have to, because you can’t have an odd number of teams in a knockout round.
Justice has not been done – but the mighty dollar (or euro, if you prefer) has spoken.

Common sense prevails. I don’t know why they didn’t already have a rule allowing the holders automatic qualification anyhow ?
Next question… Do they design a new trophy for next year or use the same style ?
