Livery change costs

Astraeus B757 G-STRX ferried to Southend yesterday where it will lose its Iron Maiden livery and gain standard Astraeus colours. This got me wondering as to how much it actually costs to completely strip down an aircraft and apply a new livery. (Not just applying titles or slightly modifying an existing livery) I realise that a/c size and complexity of the new scheme play a part, but is there anyone in the know who is able to give a rough guide with regard to costs involved?

Just curious

Seems now that G-STRX will retain the Iron Maidem livery for the time being

Why would Boeing not allow decals?
There are plenty Boeings flying around with overgrown stickers on them.

The AV8 757s were decalled as were the AviaJet 737s and the first easyJet 732s where decalled too. These are the ones I personaly know about but there were and still are many. I even have a set of plans for a decal livery on a 757-200 somewhere, one particular instruction in the plans was not to overlap any rubber seals with the decals. Fascinating stuff.

PeeDee, I’d imagine that particular customer wanted paint, it doesn’t peel like you noted decals can do when not sealed correctly or if the seal breaks.

Airbus and Boeing always paint their customers liveries for that reason. Durability.

I didn’t think Boeing allowed decals?
Maybe it was a customer demand….but I seem to think it was Boeing?????
We had to paint a 6 colour logo by masking it all up. We wanted decals obviously, a a 6 colour paint job takes an era to do.

The leading edge of the decal needs to be sealed with a fillet of varnish type lacquer. The decals are about 0.015″ thick, which is a significant into-wind step. And, the breeze could get under them an peel them. Not good if you are the A/c behind in a stack and you get a sheet of that up yer intake!

Repaint is about 50 grand for 737 size if memory serves me correctly, but they livery will probably be decals so they will remove them and redecal it.
