Living in Belfast

I may have to move to Belfast by the end of the year, what’s it like? I have never been ( I will go beforehand ), but any places worth looking at? places to avoid? Ideally I’d like to be situated near Aldergrove so I haven’t got far to go to work.

Any thoughts much appreciated

I Wasn’t low balling belfast.

The dented builiding lines in city centre I saw them myself, and those IRA zones are the common city slums.

Sorry…. but…. I say it again. What a load of balls!!!

“those IRA zones”… WTF is that supposed to mean? Any big city has run down areas which lack development. I would harldy call them ‘slums’. And there are equal numbers of these ares beween the two communities in Belfast.

“The dented builiding lines in city centre I saw them myself”… this sentence just does not make sense.

No offence mate, but you have probably been bullsh!tted by a tour guide.

Easy to park overthere (in 2004 many buildings destroyed during WWII had not been built).

Avoid both Shankhill and Falls Roads, and the Peace Lines (western part of town).

I’m originally from Belfast. Its a great city… and is getting better!! Yes, there were bad times in the past but now there is lots of building going on, the city centre has had a massive revamp over the last few years. The night life if one of the best in the UK… and if you like football… the Northern Ireland footie team is one of the europe’s giant killers (beaten England, Spain and Sweden in the last 3 years!)

Dont worry about all the bad press and dodgy areas of the town. like any big city there are good bits and bad bits. I feel safer in belfast than i would in parts of London or Glasgow. Most crime is between factions of the community (think of it as ‘gangs’ related), so if you are not in the gangs you will be ok.

Aldergrove is about 15miles North West of Belfast, Belfast City is about 2miles east of the City Centre. If you want advice on exactly where to stay, PM me. I’m actually trying to rent out my place in Belfast at the mo… and it has views of Belfast City Airport!!! 😉 Maybe we can come to some arrangement?
