Kent County Council is set to pay consultants more than £5million – for advice on how to cut the costs of looking after some of the most vulnerable adults in the county, it has emerged.
Social services chiefs are poised to offer the seven-figure contract to outside consultants as part of a two-year deal to help determine the best way of reducing spending on adult care by £18m.
County Hall sources say the value of the contract is around £5.4m.

My village has a lay by with a water trough originally put in to water horses as they toiled up the long hill by a benefactor years ago, my local council had it “restored” and I say that not in a kind way, the area was cleared, it was dismantled, stone gabions were put behind it to prevent the hill pushing against it, then the wall built using the original stone as it fell to hand, so you have in effect a new wall with old stone, they then proceeded to raise the curb and because people were still parking in the lay by putting up wooden bollards…. Totally missing the point of the rest area it was and all we ended up with was a new wall with the old trough in front… A waste of money and not what I would call a restoration. Oh and then screwed a damn sign to the front of it proclaiming their restoration.
It could have been better spent Tony on filling all those Bl***y Pot Holes in.

I personally don’t get too worried about consultants. They do a job, charge and go away.
It’s the council employees who are on the payroll for ever as long as they don’t commit mass-murder, spend all day in tea-drinking ‘meetings’ and then expect index-linked pensions.

I have no time for either but boy, I do agree with your second paragraph -add golden handshakes for dismissal or early retirement as well!
When i joined the then GPO my boss said it was two things for instant dismissal – murder and being caught in flagrante delicto with the boss’s secretary on his desk.
And the elected councillors who preen themselves as “Cabinet Member” for this or “Cabinet Member ” for that as they pocket both expenses and remuneration for their self-important roles.
