Wonder if anyone could help me identify the locations of the following RFC squadrons:
26 Reserve Squadron 10.3.1917-5.4.1917
44 Reserve Squadron 6.4.1917-10.4.1917
83 Squadron 11.4.1917-30.9.1917
I’m assuming the first two were pilot training units, but would be grateful for confirmation.

Many thanks indeed Kev, that is extremely helpful. The additional info about the aircraft type is similarly appreciated. I knew from a visit to Kew yesterday that he was flying in an FE2e when he was wounded, but was not aware of the other variations of the type.
Now all I have to do is work out why he was at Brooklands in August and Sept 1917 when he should have been at Spitalgate, but that’s my problem. (Advice from another source had placed him with 83 Sqn on 11.4.1917.)

A great help, and thank you Jim.
I’m actually trying to trace the WW1 wartime career of Capt C K M Douglas AFC, who became one of the Met Offices greatest operational forecasters during the first half of the last century, playing a major meteorological role in the forecasts leadng up to D-day and also in Bomber Command’s operations.
I know he started his flying career as an observer with 15 Squadron in the summer of 1915 and was subsequently wounded flying with 34 Sqn in Oct 1916. Hospitalised, he returned to the UK after which he must have started his pilot training with 26 Reserve Squadron.
That’s a thought, does your reference give the locations of :
15 Sqn (June 1915-Feb 1916)
18 Sqn (Feb 1916-Sep 1916
34 Sqn (Sep-Oct 1916)?
TIA

From “Flying Units of the RAF” Alan Lake.
26 Reserve Squadron was at Turnhouse for all of that period.
44 Reserve Squadron was at Lilbourne, again for all of the quoted period.
From “RAF Squadrons” C G Jefford
83 was at Spittlegate from January 1917 until 15 September. Then moved to Wyton.
Hope that helps
Jim
