Lock On Air Combat Simulation

Sorry about this I don’t know where this should go or even if anybody is remotely interested but is anybody else playing it and what are your thoughts?

I had a few teething problems at first that really did my head in but I am now getting to grips with it. It still needs a very comprehensive patch IMO but blimey there is no doubting its potential.

Mainly I fly the MIG29 and the A10 with the F15 getting a look in now and again but the others are a little neglected on y system.

One question I have is about the joystick. I am using a Saitek X36 throttle and stick. If I rely on the DX drivers I cannot calibrate it and it ‘tugs’ to the left which is a pain in the arse especially when landing. If I put in the Saitek drivers I can calibrate it but the aircraft then feel sluggish. There is a utility in the options menu that I am playing with that involves sliders and curves and dead zones. It is definitley making a difference but I don’t know how the damn thing should feel. My biggest concern is the roll rate particularly of the MIG29 which feels too slow after putting in the Saitek drivers. Does anybody have any ideas how to cure this?

LO-MAC seems pretty sensitive to all control inputs, try to put larger dead zones, and recucing the sensivity. Or… Learn to “fight” the flight dynamics 😉

I had a similar problem with my Saitek x8-38 joystick with an oldergame.

It was a WWII game called European Air War. I found I was getting my butt kicked all the time in combat as no matter how hard I pulled back on the stick i could never do more than 2-3 gs. I reverted to the keyboard for nose up and nose down controls… using the arrow key you could hear the strain on the aircraft and red outs and blackouts were possible and I could out turn some aircraft in combat (depending upon which aircraft I was flying and which I was up against).

Sorry… I never found a real solution for that… 🙁

Phil,

Your best bet would be to ask on the Lock-On forums as I am sure they can help you.
