Lockheed Martin wins 183 mln usd order for F-16 jet pilot oxygen supply system

WASHINGTON – Lockheed Martin Corp is being awarded a 183.7 mln usd
contract to provide a maximum of 1,212 retrofit kits for equipping F-16 C and D version fighter planes with the On Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS), the US Department of Defense announced on its website.
The Air Force is planned to install the kits onto the aircraft in the fiscal year 2005, the DoD said.
The OBOGS system produces breathing gas for pilots by separating oxygen from engine bleed air and will replace the current liquid oxygen system, reduce maintenance costs and eliminate all the logistics associated with the use of liquid oxygen, it added.
