Lockheed P38 Lightning crash at Milton Keynes

Has anybody have information on the P38 that was dug up in milton keynes late 80’s early 90’s when building work was going on. We had an engine from it at Bletchley Park (now at Twinwoods Museum). The other engine and parts are at Old Stratford or where last year. I would like to know when it crashed and what was its serial number was. Some reports said two parachutes came from it.
Many Thanks
Dave

If anybody is interested i have found a colour photograph of this Lockheed F5 Lightning 43-29009 in Roger A Freeman’s book The Mighty Eighth warpaint & heraldry on page 131.

Dave

I would be very interested.

This aircraft was recovered quite close to where I live and a party, I think it might have been Ted Sinclair, gave me a couple of souvenirs from the impacted engine.

To be able to now perhaps put an ID and a photo to these parts is splendid. 🙂

Ok, i just done a little trawling and i think you have some wrong details
42-29009 was a P-47D,
43-29009 was a P-38J/F-5E from 13th photo squadron, 7th PRG

McBride was flying a P-51D in Rimini,Italy which had a landing accident on the same date as 43-29009

43-29009 was flown by Edwin I Clark Jr, Bail out due to fire, Laughton Manor Farm,

cant be 100% sure but if anyone can back up or correct me that would be great!

Thanks T21. The crash site was near the Abby National building. Which was part of Loughton near Blecthley. I have never been in the office so cant confirm if anything in there. The engine we had came from Duxford, one prop blade is still with the essex group there. As far as i know the other engine was damaged by fire. This and the undercarrage parts went to Old Stratford, just norh of Milton Keynes. Although we had the engine in our BARG museum at Blecthley Park, we never got around to finding out the details of it. But we did think it came from Mount Farm.

Many Thanks

Nearest i have is an F-5E from the 7th Photo Recon Group crashed at Laughton near Bletchley on 07.03.1945 serial 42-29009, pilot was Charles P McBride. The new Abbey National building was built on the crash site hence the contractors discovering aircraft wreckage and i believe some is displayed in the Abbey front office can anyone confirm my notes ?
