London, Breeding Centre for Terrorists: Author

An opinion piece from CNN.

In part….

“Since the mid-90s, London has been a haven for foreign jihadi preachers, organizers, agitators and propagandists, many of them recipients of generous welfare benefits.

“Londonistan” attracted second-generation British Muslims who spurned the folk Islam and customs of their immigrant parents but were repelled by a British culture they regarded as decadent and racist. “….

Here’s the full story…
http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/01/04/leiken.abdulmutallab.london/index.html

I’m posting it for discussion, I don’t have a personal opinion on the matter….since most of you are from the UK, what’s your opinion?

So do I (Off Switch). But I will never stop telling jokes about ALL the usual subjects…race, Irish, Welsh, Septics, stills, etc. I EXPECT them to be returning it.
I do not do totally sick jokes about kids though.

Hear, hear!

I have no Religon faith or whatever, and i like a good joke.
Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves.
I do however have a discrimination switch in my head which enables me not to poke fun at anyone in any way that would cause them offence be it to their Religion , Race or gender.

Instead of the rude Asian stories how about the rude anyone on the planet stories .We are all as bad as each other .Every country has opinions, derogatry remarks about foreingners to their own Religion,Race,Gender or Country ,we are not unique

Bumblebee, I do apologise for misreading your post and so possibly misrepresenting your view.

I suppose it is not surprising that your daughter feels the way she does in view of the media/governmental strictures on multiculturalism and how we must all be treated exactly the same.

Nothing should be taboo and within the bounds of common courtesy we should be able to feel free to say what we feel.

I agree with Bumlebee. I too have no problem with anyone wanting to live here, but would qualify it by insisting that they are only free to do so if they accept and abide by our laws and our institutions. If they prefer their ways and institutions, why come here? That’s rhetorical because of course we know why. And that is the problem.

The government should make it crystal clear that compliant immigrants are welcome and uncompliant immigrants will be sent packing IMMEDIATELY.

We do not want the type of Asian Bumblebee encountered, but the type who runs our local newsagents and has been here for 40 years and enjoys a good anti-muslim joke, works hard, pays his taxes ( presumably ), has friendly, happy ( not scowling ) children and is very much part of the community – they are very welcome and add to the UK culture in the 21st century.

It wasn’t an Asian Sky High,it was my own 21 year-old daughter.
She seems to have got the idea from somewhere that it’s not acceptable to make any kind of comment on someone who appears to not be native British.
Incidentally someone on this particular forum recently used the expression ” Christ on a bike “.
Do I hear anyone complaining that that might be offensive to me or any other practising Christian reading it ?
Do I ********s.

“enjoys a good anti-muslim joke”

best of luck drafting that subsection of your ideal “2010 Immigration Act”

It’s certainly an interesting concept. But does that apply to all immigrants or only Muslims? Obviously, Stangman, I have no idea what your chosen religion/ideology/faith is but I would be interested to know if you enjoy “good jokes” that are anti your own faith. Care to test that concept on any Catholic, Jewish etc friends of yours and see them in fits of laughter?

Perhaps you can have Jim Davidson in constant attendance at the Heathrow Immigration Lounge (I have heard that Bernard Manning is not available) with his best book of jokes and he can select the relevant chapter and test for laughs. “There was an Englishman, Scotsman and a Muslim (Jew, Catholic etc)….”

I would tend to go down the route that a “good anti-muslim joke” is verging on an oxymoron.

PS Bring on the “I once met a rude Asian” stories, highly entertaining and persuasive.

If you’re expecting a rant then you’re in for a disappointment.
I said in my post I have no problem at all with anyone who chooses to make their home here.
Was that not clear enough for anyone ?
Yet,patb, you appear to have missed that bit.
Oh yes,I do have a problem with people who come here and wish to cause hatred and division between any groups on religious grounds.
Is that OK ?
I can’t say I like your attitude,patb.
Would it be fair to say that you assume I was making derogatory remarks ? Then let me enlighten you.
My daughter and I were in a garden centre and were queuing at the till behind an Asian family who were buying plants for their children to grow.
From their accents,I assumed they were fairly new immigrants. There’s quite a high Asian population in my town, but it’s fair to say not a lot are keen gardeners.
I commented that it was nice to see them encouraging the children to grow something.
On another occasion I remarked it was nice to see Asians supporting our local football team.
Both times she jumped down my throat and said I had a racist attitude.
That’s what I mean by it being a taboo subject.

Because, after 5,000 years, some people still hate some other people.

Yes that’s a fact for sure, But this hatred is mostly built on misunderstanding, misinterpreting of religious writings either deliberate or by mistake, racism, religious hatred etc.
In 500 years we have really learnt nothing when it comes to tolerating each other, But we have developed loads of ways to kill each other kind of ironic really.

As to London being a breeding ground for terrorist well to an extent there is some truth in this, London is a fantastic multi-cultural city with a great population, But within that population there are a minority of extremists, and people that are dangerous, This is the same for any city as far as I am concerned.

There has been many cases where terrorists or potential terrorists have been found to have been claiming benefits from the state, The state they hate so much, To me if I hate a place then I would not want to be there, But their minds are not rational thinking in any way and this is the problem.

It seems to be pretty easy for somebody to be radicalised by prophets of hate, Its all brain washing, After all if some elder gentleman said to you go and blow yourself up if you were thinking rationally you woulds say well this man has not so why should I?, It is all rather sad really.

Having said all this London is a wonderful city and has never bowed to terrorism in the past whether it be internal or external, I can see no reason why that should ever change.

I don’t think it should be a taboo subject.

Perhaps the forum would like to hear your remarks about “people who come from abroad and choose to live in the UK” and then we are all free to continue the debate rather than hear about peoples reactions to those remarks.

Anyone who wants to rant on about ‘people who come from abroad and choose to live in the UK’ had better be planning to do so in Welsh. 😎

Bloody Romans……. :diablo:

Well done old shape for walking right up to the elephant in the room and pointing at it.
Political correctness is one of the nails in this country’s coffin.I don’t know what they teach them in school these days, but I only have to make the least remark about people from abroad who choose to live in the UK for my daughter to roundly accuse me of being a horrible racist.
I have no problem at all with anyone who chooses to make their home here, but I do find it intolerable how legitimate comment on how immigration has changed forever the country I grew up in is a taboo subject.
And I grew up in Croydon.

PC is the blight of modern society, I will continue to rubbish it and those that think it is a good thing.
The assumption that a person can speak or make decisions on another person/groups behalf is belittling and is in itself an assumtion of superiority.

And that means what?

You denouncing it?
Yes, I am denouncing the attempt at using a domino dot as a simile for complex racial, social and political issues that exist in all Western societies.

Think it’s incorrect, what? Yes

Not only central, how about Hounslow and other areas round LHR? Ever been?

If you mean Central London and LHR stands for London Heathrow Airport, then yes, I have been to those places on frequent occasions and I can say that I have never felt like a domino dot or any piece of pub game equipment.

Near LHR I said. A ghetto where the white folk are a miniscule, never mind a minority.
