London Gliding Club Lincoln

As promised in the Messershimt in Bedfordshire barn thread. I went up the gliding club to take some photos of the Avro Lincoln glider trailer. This is part of the fuselarge of the Tyne test bed G-37-1. It has got a fair bit of lichen on now. I haven’t seen the owner for some time. In side there is a Slingsby Tutor.

I wonder if Mr Hodgson wants to sell the glider?

That should make it BGA 442, built as a Cadet in 1946 (about the same age as the Lincoln ?) and converted to a Tutor in 1953. Last owner recorded as Mike Hodgson, though it hasn’t seen the light of day for about 10 years. . .

What is the identity of the T.8 that lives in it?

I cant remember, but a photo of it is on page 106 of Martin Simons book ‘The Worlds Vintage Sailplanes 1908-45. It may have started out as a Cadet.

It privately owned and rent paid to the gliding club for its parking slot. The owner in the past has never wished to part with it. He didnt know of its history, other than it was a Lincoln until i told him.

Presumably the club are aware of its origins and it will not end up in a skip when its days as a glider store are over?

How did a Lincoln end up as a glider box, no doubt an interesting tale?
